When we transition from Winter into Spring/Summer our skin dictates that we make changes to our routines. The climate changes from dry, artificially heated air to hot and humid. We may need to switch to less hydrating and heavy products as our skin adjusts to the changes. My skin is dry year round so the change in seasons brings a welcome period of relief where my skin is not as dry. I still continue to use very moisturizing skincare though. I may switch to a more mattifying primer to keep my makeup from melting in the heat and to provide a nicer finish over some of the greasier, more industrial SPF sunscreens I use when I know I will be outdoors a lot in the summer.

Not only does our skin change with the weather but we inevitably end up having to show more of it as the weather warms up. Warmer weather means ditching the boots and shoes and bringing out the sandals and open toed footwear. I start using a good quality foot file in the shower whenever I can to keep my feet looking smooth. Regular pedicures become a must, and I make sure I always moisturize my feet daily where as I usually skip this step in cooler months.

Of course we aren’t only baring the skin on our feet but the rest of our body as well! Body scrubs take up residence in my shower to keep my body, and especially knees and elbows, looking smooth and healthy. The shocking reality of our winter white skin assaults us and that is where Jergens Healthy Glow products have been a saviour for me this spring. With one or two applications of the 3 Days to Glow (I don’t usually do more than 2 as it starts to look too artificial on my pale, cool skin) I have a healthy warmth to my skin that makes shorts, skirts, and dresses a more welcome wardrobe change. Maintaining that glow is made super easy with the Jergens Natural Glow Daily Moisturizer. It applies as effortlessly as a regular moisturizer, and has no disgusting self tanning odour, yet provides subtle, gradual colour or helps maintain the deeper shade achieved with the 3 Days to Glow. Applying it after every shower can just become part of your everyday routine and self tanning no longer needs to be a stinky and inconvenient practice.

I know this review is a bit long but please read. I am so excited about these products! Today I have the pleasure of introducing you to the new Pevonia Spa Clinica line. It is a line of customized skincare regimens PLUS a personal Aesthetician online! It can be so hard to navigate our way through the myriad of skincare products available, and the very hyped up marketing, to find a selection of products that really works with our skin type and address the issues WE face. It is easy to get confused by the influx of new products hitting the market every day. About 80% of women never visit a clinical spa or aesthetician to get true personalized recommendations. Now Pevonia, (a go-to brand for the world’s most prestigious spas and professional aestheticians for over 20 years), has introduced a way to give anyone with internet access, a webcam, and Skype the benefit of professional help and a customized program that is easy to follow from home!

The products involve a four step Basic Regimen, which includes:

STEP 1 > Cleanser

STEP 2 > Toner

STEP 3 > Serum

STEP 4 > Moisturizer

There are four Basic Regimens that target women’s biggest concerns:

Skin Perfecting Regimen with Retinol targets Sun Damage and Spots

Anti-Aging Regimen with Collagen targets Lines and Wrinkles

Breakout Erase Regimen with Salicylic Acid, Lactic Acid and Benzoyl Peroxide targets Breakouts and Blemishes

Redness Relief Regimen with Green Tea targets Redness and Sensitivity

You can also Mix & Match additional STEP 3 Serums to customize any Basic Regimen into the perfect system to address all of your skin concerns. The powerhouse of every regimen is the STEP 3 Serum. Although every product in the regimen contains an important primary ingredient such as Retinol or Collagen, the STEP 3 Serum contains professional-strength concentrations. Each Basic Regimen can be customized for more complex skin simply by adding more STEP 3 Serums. For example, if your primary concern is breakouts and blemishes, but you also experience crow’s feet and dark spots, simply add the Aging Eye Serum and Dark Spots Serum to your Breakout Erase Regimen. This is what I did with the Redness Relief Regimen. I used the Aging Eye Serum and Dark Spots Serum in cooperation with the Redness Relief Cleanser, Toner, and Moisturizer. I was missing the Redness Relief Serum which I am SO desperate to try because the results I saw with just the other 3 steps were amazing and the Step 3 is supposed to be the most effective.

Pevonia Spa Clinica features an assortment of Mix & Match STEP 3 Serums targeting a variety of concerns:

Aging Eye Serum

Acne Spots Serum

Dark Spots Serum

Under Eye Serum

Visible Redness Serum

Wrinkle Serum

Wrinkle PLUS Serum

Now I know this whole concept and system sounds very exciting but I haven’t even gotten to the most exiting part yet. The results! I had amazing results with these products. The best way I could sum up my experience is to say that I am afraid to stop using them. I have finished almost all of the products I have been testing and I am honestly terrified of losing the progress I’ve seen in my skin. I have been using the products for almost two months now. Normally I would be anxious to commence testing on the next skincare product after 3-4 weeks but I’ve been so happy with Pevonia Spa Clinica that I have used the products, and waited to review, until they were running out!

My skin is clearer and more even. I have had no breakouts, clogged pores, blackheads etc. while using these products and my dark spots have faded slightly.

I have seen a noticeable reduction in redness. I still experience rosacea flareups with alcohol consumption, hot weather, etc. but on an everyday basis my skin is less red, less blotchy, and it is more resistant to flushing.

It cleared up the dry, red patches of skin (I believe it may have been eczema) that I had been experiencing around my nose and down my laugh lines for the past year+ and it has almost eliminated it on my chin as well.

My skin is plumper, firmer, and more hydrated.

Reduction in wrinkles and fine lines. (I even had the aesthetician at a recent facial comment on how lovely my skin was and that I had no wrinkles. I had to go look afterwards to confirm that the wrinkles I thought I had were pretty much non-existent.)

Now if you have read any skincare reviews from me in the past you will have noticed I don’t usually experience results dramatic enough to get excited about or repurchase a product. I attribute it to having stubborn skin that just doesn’t seem to want to improve. Well I have seen improvements. Improvements I am very happy with. This poses a big conundrum for me as I feel silly spending money I don’t have on skincare products when I always have products available that I can be testing for review. I want to continue to have the healthy skin, I have now and I’m excited to see the continued progress I may see if I repurchase the Pevonia line, so I may just have to scrounge up the money somehow. The products have a lovely, light, natural scent. You can see from the impressive ingredient listings below that there is no added fragrance. Yay!

Now the other exciting thing (which I admit I didn’t even look into prior to using these products) is that they are affordable. Even better is they offer really great savings on packaged deals of the regimens!

Pevonia Spa Clinica Pricing

STEP 1 Cleansers (4 oz) $23

STEP 2 Toners (4 oz) $18

STEP 3 Serums (1.7 oz) $39

STEP 4 Moisturizers (4 oz) $67

Buy complete Basic Regimens and save:

Basic Regimen (Cleanser, Toner, 1 Serum, Moisturizer) $96

Basic Regimen + 1 additional serum $121

Basic Regimen + 2 additional serums $136

And don’t forget about the Aestheticians who make house calls! If you need help identifying your concerns, choosing a Basic Regimen and STEP 3 Serum, or using the Pevonia products, you can now video chat via Skype with one of their professional aestheticians. They are available from 8 a.m.—5 p.m. PST everyday. It’s like having your own spa professional on call. If you don’t feel comfortable using, or don’t have access to, Skype you can simply send them a photo and their professionals will identify your concerns and make recommendations.

Read on for more details on the products I tested:

Redness Relief Cleanser A very gentle and luxurious feeling cream cleanser in a pump dispenser. I do recommend the use of a makeup remover prior to cleansing. This is a cleanser that even though it was of course being rinsed off I felt I was reaping the benefits of it’s use. I would actually leave it on my skin in the shower as a mask sometimes while I did other things. Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Sodium Lauroyl Oat Amino Acids, Cocamidopropyl Betaine, Stearic Acid, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Glyceryl Stearate, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Magnesium Aluminum Silicate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Allantoin, Boswellia Carterii Oil, Rosa Gallica Flower Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol.

Redness Relief Toner A soothing toner in a handy spray bottle for easy dispersion onto a cotton pad. Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Sorbitol, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Panthenol, Paullinia Cupana Fruit Extract, Allantoin, Polysorbate 20, Boswellia Carterii Oil, Rosa Gallica Flower Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Potassium Sorbate, Methylisothiazolinone.

Redness Relief Moisturizer A rich, hydrating and soothing moisturizer. Absolutely love this moisturizer. It’s done wonders for my dry irritated skin. I wish this was packaged in something more hygienic and airtight than a frosted glass jar though. I did experience some yellowing of this white cream around the edges of the jar after a several weeks of use so I know it was reacting in some way to light or air. Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Squalane, Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Tocopherol (Vit. E), Tocopheryl Acetate (Vit. E), Dimethicone, Carbomer, Allantoin, Boswellia Carterii Oil, Phenoxyethanol, Sodium Citrate, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Rosa Gallica Flower Oil.

Dark Spots Serum A somewhat thick, yellow coloured product that had a cream rather than serum consistency. In handy and hygienic pump packaging. Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Sucrose Palmitate, Glyceryl Linoleate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (SweetAlmond) Oil, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Undaria Pinnatifida Extract, Cetearyl Glucoside, Glyceryl Stearate, Sodium Ascorbyl Glucoside, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract, Maltodextrin, Portulaca Oleracea Flower Extract, Dimethicone, Lactic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vit. E), Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol, Ethylhexylglycerin, Hexylene Glycol, Hydroxyethylcellulose.

Aging Eye Serum While I find it funny this is called aging eye serum rather than anti-aging eye serum this is a lovely light lotion consistency eye treatment in pump packaging. A little goes a long way and it hydrates and smooths very well while remaining light enough to perform well under makeup. Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Hesperidin Methyl Chalcone, Steareth-20, Dipeptide-2, N-Hydroxysuccinimide, Chrysin, Palmitoyl Oligopeptide, Palmitoyl Tetrapeptides-3, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Collagen Polypeptides (Marine), Niacinamide, Cetearyl Glucoside, Sorbitol, Caviar Extract, Hydrolyzed Hibiscus Esculentus Extract, Dextrin, Oligosaccharides (Algae) Extract, Hyaluronic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vit. E), Retinyl Palmitate (Vit. A), Glyceryl Stearate, Hydroxyethylcellulose, Ethoxydiglycol, Dimethicone, Phenoxyethanol, Caprylyl Glycol.

I can’t recall what I used for blush but it doesn’t matter anyways because all you can see is my flushed cheeks! I may have already partaken in some Saturday afternoon beverages at the time these photos were taken. Yay rosacea!
L’Oreal Nail Color in Orange You Jealous? is a fun loving summer coral that looks amazing on tips or toes. I have a feeling this will become a favourite pedicure shade for me but for this week it will have to satisfy itself with perking up my nails on this chilly spring week. It applies with no issues and has perfect, opaque coverage in two coats. It has a touch more pink to it than these photos reflect and it is bright! I am LOVING it!

I love waterproof makeup. Not that I make a habit out of trying to concoct makeup looks that will withstand a day in the pool, but the use of a few waterproof items on a daily basis is the perfect way to ensure fade proof, long lasting looks. Something that is especially important as the hot, sweaty days of summer have already begun the appear. Mind you as I am typing this as it is snowing and blowing outside my window. Excuse me May? Sheesh!

Some of my all time favourite waterproof makeup products are:

Anastasia Lash Genius Clear Waterproof Top Coat - Turn any mascara into a waterproof mascara! It also works great to set brows or mix with a powdered shadow for a budgeproof liner. Check out my Lash Genius Review.

Use everyday as a base under powder shadows to ensure your look won’t fade. I have reviewed several of the shades here and here. There are some incredible looking new shades out for summer that I can’t wait to get my hands on!

I am so excited to announce that I was selected to be a Spokesperson for Almay! Even more exciting is that the Almay Makeup Moments with Mom campaign is featuring the gorgeous Goldie Hawn and Kate Hudson! I love these beautiful, fun, and inspiring women!

Now my mother has actually never worn makeup. Not even special occasions. Not only that but through most of her life she hasn’t even used skincare. More often than not you can’t even find a body lotion in her house. Frustrating when you are visiting and have something as simple as dry hands and need some relief! I really have no idea where my love/obsession with makeup and skincare came from. It was just part of my DNA. Now as a mother I can see my daughter being influenced by my passion for makeup. At 5 years old she has already found a young girl on YouTube who’s makeup tutorials she loves to watch. She even wants to do her OWN videos and heck even I don’t do videos! I’m not sure whether to be excited or terrified about this blossoming beauty aficionado. Right now I am looking forward to all the makeup secrets I can share with my daughter as she grows up and hopefully steer her clear of some of the mistakes I made along the way. Almay happens to be such a wonderful line for young girls since it is made for sensitive skin. Just maybe not 5 year old girls…

As part of the Almay “The Best Makeup Secrets I Learned From My Mom” campaign is an amazing contest to win a trip to NYC with Makeovers for Two! Check out the details below and make sure you enter. Who doesn’t want a trip to NYC?!

How to Enter:

From stealing your mother’s mascara to teaching your daughter how to apply eyeshadow, you share a lifetime of makeup moments with the most important women in your life. Upload a photo and tell us about your most memorable mother/daughter makeup moment for a chance to win a trip to NYC and makeovers for two! The Contest is open to legal residents of the 48 contiguous United States and the District of Columbia, age 18 or older at time of entry.
The Power Trio from Benefit Cosmetics. A mix of hydrating, concealing, and emphasizing product for the eye area that really take your eyes from dopey to dramatic.

It’s Potent Eye Cream ($39 CAD) – This eye cream contains a peptide complex known to help restore elasticity and firmness, a blend of hydrating botanical extracts including apple extract, known to help boost collagen, & loquat extract, known to help protect the skin from free radical damage. It fades dark circles and helps smooth fine lines for brighter and younger looking eyes. Sign me up! I haven’t used it long enough to speak to its long term benefits but so far I can tell you that it feels amazing and instantly hydrates and smooths out my eye area. It feel incredibly rich yet light at the same time and feels amazing right out of the fridge in the morning!

They’re Real Mascara ($29 CAD) – Lengthens, curls, separates, lifts, and volumizes. Check out my original review of They’re Real for more info on this incredible mascara. One of my current faves.

FakeUp Concealer ($29 CAD) – I have been using this concealer daily. I am totally smitten. Not only does this hydrating, crease-control concealer perform beautifully in the eye area as I detailed in my Fakeup Concealer review last month but I have also discovered it works great at concealing other areas of my face wear I experience redness and dry flaky skin from eczema. This wonderfully hydrating concealer has not only improved the condition of my undereye area through it’s regular use but has been a blessing for covering and soothing my dry patches without emphasizing the flaky skin.

Check out the before and after results of the Power Trio via the One Eye Challenge. We were presented with this challenge as part of the truly amazing Rest and Reveal event Benefit Cosmetics treated a lucky few of us to at the gorgeous Four Seasons Toronto Hotel Spa. I must admit these results aren’t as dramatic as they could be as even my naked eye looks far better than usual after the incredibly luxurious and pampering facial I received. The Spa at the Four Seasons is really beautiful and the whole experience of being there is very relaxing.

Coming in mid June 2013 is the latest innovation from Lancôme. The new Absolue Sublime Regenerating Oleo-Serum becomes the first step in the Absolue skin care ritual and combines the unique properties of Lemon essential oil and Camellia and Babassu oils with the regenerating powers of Pro-Xylane. The packaging is absolutely stunning!

The Lancôme Absolue Sublime Regenerating Oleo-Serum is a product with an incredibly luxurious feel. The formula has 9 patents and is opening up a new pathway in terms of texture. It has a hybrid texture that is part oil, part serum. This blend combines the sensory experience of oils with the melt away texture of a serum. I found it interesting to discover that Lemon essential oil in skin care is new and quite unique. 200 kg of lemon zest is required to obtain just one kilogram of essential oil. It is made up of more than 100 components and they are preserved by the cold press collection method. In vitro, its been observed to possess the capacity for regeneration as well as the organization of the upper layers of the epidermis, reinforcing the substance of the skin. My skin is quite thin and losing elasticity so I am excited to see if I see any improvements. The Camellia and Babassu oils are both renowned for their nutritional properties and nourish the skin with essential fatty acids that are similar to the skins own lipids.

Lancôme Absolue Sublime Regenerating Oleo-Serum ($190/30ml) will be available as of mid-June at all Lancôme counters and at Lancôme.ca. I will update you with my results prior to the release!

There will be ONE individual Eye Kaleidoscope Kit up per day that is the last of its kind (6 in total). Throughout the week, kaleidoscopes will be paired with additional gifts from outstanding brands, designers and companies we’ve partnered with for the cause. Lastly, for anyone who chooses to separately donate $100 or more on the tribute fund page that has been set up at ALSA.org, Le Métier de Beauté will send a thank you package of beauty goodies.

What is ALS? The Facts: • Amyotrophic Lateral Sclerosis is a progressive neurodegenerative disease that attacks nerve cells in the brain and spinal cord resulting in muscle weakness and atrophy. • Upon diagnosis, the life expectancy of an ALS patient ranges from 2 to 5 years. • Only 10% will survive more than 10 years • For the vast majority, their mind and thoughts are not impaired and remain sharp despite the progressive degenerating condition of the body. • ALS can strike anyone. There is currently no cure. What We Can Do. “Lids for Lou Gehrig’s” Mission: Give a voice. The goal behind Le Métier de Beauté ‘s “Lids for Lou Gehrig’s” campaign is to open more eyes to this devastating disease. Knowledge is power and can bring us one step closer to finding a cure. Your participation, voice and donations can directly impact thousands of people and their family members whose lives have been affected by ALS.

Healthy Skin is the result of what the Chinese call Qi Se which is balanced skin energy flow (Qi) and and ideal skin colour (Se). It is revealed by a rosy, radiant glow from within. Lancôme has selected three plant roots from the best secrets of Chinese Medicine – Rhodiola, Gentian and Wild Yam – to bring together and rebalance the skin’s energy flow as if promoting Qi Se. Lancôme’s Énergie de Vie line brings a cutting edge combination of science and traditional Chinese Qi Se to energize, detoxify, and nourish the skin.

As one of the most active parts of a plant, the roots are an extraordinary reserve of life drawn from the earth. Lancôme Énergie de Vie contains:

Rhodiola known for its energizing and metabolic properties.

Gentian used for its antioxidant virtues.

Wild Yam which is highly valued for its nourishing qualities.

The recharging of the skin is achieved with the combination of two products:

Énergie de Vie Lotion (200ml/$55 CAD) which has a unique semi-translucent texture and syrupy texture that is very fluid and moist and entirely non sticky and

Énergie de Vie Cream (50ml/$60 CAD) which is a lightweight cream with a nourishing texture that glides onto skin leaving it looking smoother and more luminous.

The visible and perceived efficacy on Qi Se that Lancôme promotes with Énergie de Vie is that skin will look more translucent and even with pink tones enhanced and green, yellow and brown tones appearing decreased resulting in a more even looking complexion. I will be sure to update you on the results I experience with use of these products. One thing I have noticed already is that they are heavily scented. They are available exclusively at Sephora and Lancôme.ca, although I do not see it online yet at Sephora.com.

Lise Watier has launched a new fragrance exclusive to Shoppers Drug Mart called Something Sweet (Eau de Toilette Spray 50ml/$59 CAD). Now typically if you threw the terms sweet and gourmand at me in reference to a perfume my instinctive reaction would be to gag. I don’t do heavy “sweet” scents. Lise Watier Something Sweet however, was a pleasant surprise. While it does have the sweet element, it is also light and refreshing at the same time. In fact it is quite delightful!

Something Sweet is the cheerful new scent that captures a gourmand’s embrace of youthful vitality. With its sparkling top notes of Champagne bubbles and Rainbow Sorbet, refreshing accents of Melon Fizz and Red Fruit, and a delectable base of Juicy Raspberry and Chocolate Mousse, Something Sweet is distinctive and playful.

As part of the release there are also three limited edition lip balm pots. I have the Yummy Lip Balm (9g/$12.50 CAD) in Berries. It is a light feeling balm with a sweet berry scent and flavour. It has a very, very fine shimmer that gives just a hint of glow to the lips. The Yummy Lip Balm is also available in Chocolate and Pistachio. I would love to see what the Pistachio version is like!

These should be available now at Shoppers Drug Mart. There will also be a Something Sweet Roll-On (10ml/$25 CAD) being released in August 2013.

Shoppers Drug Mart and Lise Watier are also running a really cool contest as part of the Something Sweet release. Lise Watier is on a nationwide search for a young woman who embodies the delectably light-hearted spirit of Something Sweet. To participate simply snap a pic of yourself in the Something Sweet environment at your favourite Shoppers Drug Mart and post it to Instagram (or submit directly). You can register at somethingsweet.lisewatier.com. The five girls with the most votes will be declared finalists and win a prize valued at $1,000 each. From the five finalists they will select an ambassador of Something Sweet and she will be awarded a 6-month contract as the face of the fragrance!

This weeks FashionMagazine.com Beauty Panel challenge was celebrity idols that inspire our hair and/or makeup. I don’t really idolize any celebrities as far as fashion, beauty, or anything else for that matter, but when it comes to a celebrity’s red carpet looks that usually catch my eye it would have to be Kristen Stewart. I tend to find the makeup looks on the red carpet rather boring. Sure they look gorgeous and polished, but I usually find myself viewing the look as more “everyday” than red carpet worthy. What I love about Kristen is how adventurous her makeup looks are and that she is not afraid to experiment with colour. Smoky eyes infused with vibrant shades of colour is one of her signature styles that I am most fond of. I love the elongated shape her eyeshadow usually takes and the beauty of her porcelain skin. While I often find myself wanting to reach out and touch up her lip product, as it almost always seems to look worn off possibly from too much lip locking with Robert Pattinson, I still love the overall package. I tried to put on my best constipated expression for my Kristen Stewart inspired look but I don’t quite have the knack for it that Kristen does!

When I saw these come on sale for under $5 at Shoppers Drug Mart a couple months ago I knew I needed to pick up some more shades. I am so in love with the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes! I was still trying to be frugal so I selected two shades for myself and one for my mom. The two shades I picked up to add to my little growing collection were Candy Coral and Fresh Pink.

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Candy Coral and Fresh Pink

The Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes are a gel formula which provides the bouncy texture. It really is quite neat. They feel very lightweight like a powder and have no stickiness or tackiness at all. They melt into the skin and give a very natural effect as the blushes are sheer on pigment. This is what initially kept me from purchasing these blushes but I quickly learned to appreciate the beauty of this formula. Building up the colour may mean they take a little longer to apply but it yields such a soft, glowing, natural flush that it is well worth the effort. Maybelline recommends applying these with your fingers but I have really been loving the application achieved by buffing these into my cheeks with a brush.

Candy Coral is a beautiful bright orange coral and Fresh Pink is the perfect medium pink.

I previously reviewed Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Orchid Hush, Rose Petal, and Hot Tamale so I thought it would be helpful to do some photos and swatches of all five shades together:

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Orchid Hush, Fresh Pink, Rose Petal, Hot Tamale, and Candy Coral

I am very pleased with the variety of shades I have from the lineup. Still doesn’t keep me from wanting them ALL! I find myself reaching for Hot Tamale and Fresh Pink most often.

Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Orchid Hush, Fresh Pink, Rose Petal, Hot Tamale, and Candy Coral

Have you tried the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes? What are your favourite shades?

The six Essie Summer 2013 collection shades inspired by ”breezy chiffon cover-ups and cashmere pastel evening looks” are:

rock the boat—shimmering french blue

full steam ahead—pearlescent punch lilac

naughty nautical—marine blue-green shimmer

the girls are out—fuchsia peony sparkle

sunday funday—tangerine coral crush shimmer

the more the merrier—juicy lime green

All the shades are have silver fleck glitter with the exception of The More the Merrier which is an almost neon cream. The shimmer is subtle yet it is still visible in low light. The formula has a thin consistency and is sheer but looks good in two coats (and are show swatched with two coats) with the exception of Rock the Boat. It had an even sheerer formula than the rest and didn’t level itself out as well which meant it required 3 coats for a more even finish. I really love the colour palette of this collection. It’s such a beautiful assortment of summer travel inspired shades.

The Essie Summer 2013 collection will be available in June 2013. What shade is your favourite?

For this weeks Makeup Wars feature I am going to do something I never do, which is review a sample. Now the reason I am breaking my rule is that this was a very generously sized sample that I received in a beauty box and I got weeks of use out of. And I have been missing it ever since it ran out!

The Pure+Simple Calming Cucumber Mask ($25.25 CAD/50 ml) got me through some vary harrowing skin times. I was trying to do my best to get an amazing retinol product to work for me but my dry, sensitive, rosacea afflicted skin would have none of it. My skin was raw, peeling, and sore. The Calming Cucumber Mask was like my little miracle tube. One treatment with the retinol product and I would be red and raw and then one treatment with the Calming Cucumber Mask and my skin was repaired. It was a yo-yo I continued a little longer than I should have but even afterwards I found myself turning to the mask whenever my skin felt overly dry, over exfoliated, or I was suffering from a rosacea flare up. The mask is designed to nourish and calm skin with its cooling and soothing properties and it does a wonderful job of it.

The Pure+Simple Calming Cucumber Mask contains Sea Algae to help restore moisture to the skin as well as antioxidants, Grapeseed Extract, and Vitamins A, C, and E. It infuses skin with hydration and plumps up skin cells leaving it feeling renewed and rejuvenated just as promised. Another bonus is you can cool this mask in the refrigerator to provide extra soothing to skin irritated from things such as sunburn and rosacea. You can even use it as an eye mask to help with puffiness and dark circles! You leave the mask on for 30 mins prior to rinsing off to ensure good penetration but you can also do what I did the majority of the time which is leave it on as an overnight treatment and rinse it off in the morning.

I can’t believe I’ve been letting my penny pinching ways keep me from buying a vat of this stuff. I had almost forgotten about how much I loved and then missed this mask. Pure+Simple is a Canadian company and you can find out more, as well as purchase their products, on their website.
