Not only does our skin change with the weather but we inevitably end up having to show more of it as the weather warms up. Warmer weather means ditching the boots and shoes and bringing out the sandals and open toed footwear. Now I know this whole concept and system sounds very exciting but I haven’t even gotten to the most exiting part yet. The results! I had amazing results with these products. The best way I could sum up my experience is to say that I am afraid to stop using them. • It cleared up the dry, red patches of skin (I believe it may have been eczema) that I had been experiencing around my nose and down my laugh lines for the past year+ and it has almost eliminated it on my chin as well.
• My skin is plumper, firmer, and more hydrated.
• Reduction in wrinkles and fine lines. (I even had the aesthetician at a recent facial comment on how lovely my skin was and that I had no wrinkles. I had to go look afterwards to confirm that the wrinkles I thought I had were pretty much non-existent.)

Now if you have read any skincare reviews from me in the past you will have noticed I don’t usually experience results dramatic enough to get excited about or repurchase a product. I attribute it to having stubborn skin that just doesn’t seem to want to improve. Well I have seen improvements. Improvements I am very happy with. This poses a big conundrum for me as I feel silly spending money I don’t have on skincare products when I always have products available that I can be testing for review. I want to continue to have the healthy skin, I have now and I’m excited to see the continued progress I may see if I repurchase the Pevonia line, so I may just have to scrounge up the money somehow. Redness Relief Moisturizer A rich, hydrating and soothing moisturizer. Absolutely love this moisturizer. It’s done wonders for my dry irritated skin. I wish this was packaged in something more hygienic and airtight than a frosted glass jar though. I did experience some yellowing of this white cream around the edges of the jar after a several weeks of use so I know it was reacting in some way to light or air. Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Squalane, Corylus Avellana (Hazel) Seed Oil, Camellia Sinensis Leaf Extract, Dipotassium Glycyrrhizate, Glycerin, Sorbitol, Carthamus Tinctorius (Safflower) Seed Oil, Titanium Dioxide, Anthemis Nobilis Flower Extract, Tocopherol (Vit. Dark Spots Serum A somewhat thick, yellow coloured product that had a cream rather than serum consistency. In handy and hygienic pump packaging. Ingredients: Water (Aqua), Caprylic/Capric Triglyceride, Glycerin, Sucrose Palmitate, Glyceryl Linoleate, Prunus Amygdalus Dulcis (SweetAlmond) Oil, Glycyrrhiza Glabra (Licorice) Root Extract, Magnesium Ascorbyl Phosphate, Undaria Pinnatifida Extract, Cetearyl Glucoside, Glyceryl Stearate, Sodium Ascorbyl Glucoside, Hippophae Rhamnoides Fruit Extract, Maltodextrin, Portulaca Oleracea Flower Extract, Dimethicone, Lactic Acid, Tocopheryl Acetate (Vit. Aging Eye Serum While I find it funny this is called aging eye serum rather than anti-aging eye serum this is a lovely light lotion consistency eye treatment in pump packaging. A little goes a long way and it hydrates and smooths very well while remaining light enough to perform well under makeup. I can’t believe I’m saying this, but I’ve had this absolutely gorgeous coral cream sitting in my stash since November! By the time the weather felt right to adorn my nails in this eye catching, almost neon intense coral shade I had practically forgotten I had it.

L’Oreal Nail Color in Orange You Jealous? is a fun loving summer coral that looks amazing on tips or toes. I have a feeling this will become a favourite pedicure shade for me but for this week it will have to satisfy itself with perking up my nails on this chilly spring week. It applies with no issues and has perfect, opaque coverage in two coats. It has a touch more pink to it than these photos reflect and it is bright! I am LOVING it!

I love waterproof makeup. Not that I make a habit out of trying to concoct makeup looks that will withstand a day in the pool, but the use of a few waterproof items on a daily basis is the perfect way to ensure fade proof, long lasting looks. Something that is especially important as the hot, sweaty days of summer have already begun the appear. Mind you as I am typing this as it is snowing and blowing outside my window. Excuse me May? Sheesh!

Now my mother has actually never worn makeup. Not even special occasions. Not only that but through most of her life she hasn’t even used skincare. More often than not you can’t even find a body lotion in her house. Frustrating when you are visiting and have something as simple as dry hands and need some relief! I really have no idea where my love/obsession with makeup and skincare came from. It was just part of my DNA. Now as a mother I can see my daughter being influenced by my passion for makeup. At 5 years old she has already found a young girl on YouTube who’s makeup tutorials she loves to watch. She even wants to do her OWN videos and heck even I don’t do videos! I’m not sure whether to be excited or terrified about this blossoming beauty aficionado. Right now I am looking forward to all the makeup secrets I can share with my daughter as she grows up and hopefully steer her clear of some of the mistakes I made along the way. The visible and perceived efficacy on Qi Se that Lancôme promotes with Énergie de Vie is that skin will look more translucent and even with pink tones enhanced and green, yellow and brown tones appearing decreased resulting in a more even looking complexion. I will be sure to update you on the results I experience with use of these products. One thing I have noticed already is that they are heavily scented. Lise Watier has launched a new fragrance exclusive to Shoppers Drug Mart called Something Sweet (Eau de Toilette Spray 50ml/$59 CAD). Now typically if you threw the terms sweet and gourmand at me in reference to a perfume my instinctive reaction would be to gag. I don’t do heavy “sweet” scents. Lise Watier Something Sweet however, was a pleasant surprise. While it does have the sweet element, it is also light and refreshing at the same time. In fact it is quite delightful!

Something Sweet is the cheerful new scent that captures a gourmand’s embrace of youthful vitality. With its sparkling top notes of Champagne bubbles and Rainbow Sorbet, refreshing accents of Melon Fizz and Red Fruit, and a delectable base of Juicy Raspberry and Chocolate Mousse, Something Sweet is distinctive and playful.

As part of the release there are also three limited edition lip balm pots. I have the Yummy Lip Balm (9g/$12.50 CAD) in Berries. It is a light feeling balm with a sweet berry scent and flavour. It has a very, very fine shimmer that gives just a hint of glow to the lips. The Yummy Lip Balm is also available in Chocolate and Pistachio. I would love to see what the Pistachio version is like!

These should be available now at Shoppers Drug Mart. There will also be a Something Sweet Roll-On (10ml/$25 CAD) being released in August 2013.

Shoppers Drug Mart and Lise Watier are also running a really cool contest as part of the Something Sweet release. Lise Watier is on a nationwide search for a young woman who embodies the delectably light-hearted spirit of Something Sweet. To participate simply snap a pic of yourself in the Something Sweet environment at your favourite Shoppers Drug Mart and post it to Instagram (or submit directly). Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blush in Candy Coral and Fresh Pink

When I saw these come on sale for under $5 at Shoppers Drug Mart a couple months ago I knew I needed to pick up some more shades. I am so in love with the Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes! I was still trying to be frugal so I selected two shades for myself and one for my mom. The two shades I picked up to add to my little growing collection were Candy Coral and Fresh Pink.

The Maybelline Dream Bouncy Blushes are a gel formula which provides the bouncy texture. It really is quite neat. They feel very lightweight like a powder and have no stickiness or tackiness at all. They melt into the skin and give a very natural effect as the blushes are sheer on pigment. This is what initially kept me from purchasing these blushes but I quickly learned to appreciate the beauty of this formula. Building up the colour may mean they take a little longer to apply but it yields such a soft, glowing, natural flush that it is well worth the effort.  Maybelline recommends applying these with your fingers but I have really been loving the application achieved by buffing these into my cheeks with a brush.

Candy Coral is a beautiful bright orange coral and Fresh Pink is the perfect medium pink.

I am very pleased with the variety of shades I have from the lineup. Still doesn’t keep me from wanting them ALL! I find myself reaching for Hot Tamale and Fresh Pink most often.

The six Essie Summer 2013 collection shades inspired by ”breezy chiffon cover-ups and cashmere pastel evening looks” are:

• rock the boat—shimmering french blue
• full steam ahead—pearlescent punch lilac
• naughty nautical—marine blue-green shimmer
• the girls are out—fuchsia peony sparkle
• sunday funday—tangerine coral crush shimmer
• the more the merrier—juicy lime green

All the shades are have silver fleck glitter with the exception of The More the Merrier which is an almost neon cream. The shimmer is subtle yet it is still visible in low light. The formula has a thin consistency and is sheer but looks good in two coats (and are show swatched with two coats) with the exception of Rock the Boat. It had an even sheerer formula than the rest and didn’t level itself out as well which meant it required 3 coats for a more even finish. I really love the colour palette of this collection. It’s such a beautiful assortment of summer travel inspired shades.

For this weeks Makeup Wars feature I am going to do something I never do, which is review a sample. Now the reason I am breaking my rule is that this was a very generously sized sample that I received in a beauty box and I got weeks of use out of. And I have been missing it ever since it ran out!

The Pure+Simple Calming Cucumber Mask ($25.25 CAD/50 ml) got me through some vary harrowing skin times. I was trying to do my best to get an amazing retinol product to work for me but my dry, sensitive, rosacea afflicted skin would have none of it. My skin was raw, peeling, and sore. The Calming Cucumber Mask was like my little miracle tube. One treatment with the retinol product and I would be red and raw and then one treatment with the Calming Cucumber Mask and my skin was repaired. It was a yo-yo I continued a little longer than I should have but even afterwards I found myself turning to the mask whenever my skin felt overly dry, over exfoliated, or I was suffering from a rosacea flare up. The mask is designed to nourish and calm skin with its cooling and soothing properties and it does a wonderful job of it.

The Pure+Simple Calming Cucumber Mask contains Sea Algae to help restore moisture to the skin as well as antioxidants, Grapeseed Extract, and Vitamins A, C, and E. It infuses skin with hydration and plumps up skin cells leaving it feeling renewed and rejuvenated just as promised. Another bonus is you can cool this mask in the refrigerator to provide extra soothing to skin irritated from things such as sunburn and rosacea. You can even use it as an eye mask to help with puffiness and dark circles! You leave the mask on for 30 mins prior to rinsing off to ensure good penetration but you can also do what I did the majority of the time which is leave it on as an overnight treatment and rinse it off in the morning.

I can’t believe I’ve been letting my penny pinching ways keep me from buying a vat of this stuff. I had almost forgotten about how much I loved and then missed this mask. Pure+Simple is a Canadian company and you can find out more, as well as purchase their products, on their website.
