The brushes are all very soft and excellent quality. The handles are well put together, solid, and comfortable to use. They don’t shed and hold their shape. My absolute favourites from all of the sets I have tried have been the face brushes. I find as a generally rule across the line that in my opinion the eye brushes are all too large. I still get a lot of use out of them as they are very soft, and great brushes but I wish they weren’t so big. Especially the liner and brow brushes. I find it a little ridiculous it is called a “pixel-point” eyeliner brush. I have been using it to apply eyeshadow to my lower lashliner and inner corner. I have found lots of great uses for these brushes but, for me, the eye brushes are too big, and sometimes too fluffy, for their indicated purpose.

I am very excited to try the individually sold Real Techniques brushes next!

Ultra-plush, synthetic taklon bristles are hand-cut and 100% cruelty-free. The Real Techniques Core Collection, Starter, and Travel Essentials Sets are available in Canada now through FarleyCo Canada and at Walmart! The individual brushes are now available at FarleyCo Canada and will hopefully be available elsewhere soon!

Real Techniques by Samantha Chapman Core Collection Brush Set ~ Photos and Review

IMG_6621

I shared with you back in January that Real Techniques Brushes by Samantha Chapman (Pixiwoo) had finally arrived in Canada. I have been testing out the Core Collection and I’m delighted to share my thoughts on these brushes along with the exciting news that they have hit the shelves at Wamart!

The Core Collection ($18 US/ $27.99 CAD) set includes four full size brushes and a stand/case.

  • detailer brush: precision cut to effortlessly conceal problem areas; or, use with lipstick for long-lasting shape and definition
  • pointed foundation brush: Use with liquid foundation to build custom coverage
  • buffing brush: ideal for full coverage application of powder and mineral foundation
  • contour brush: delicately applies highlighter to contour or create sheer, soft-focus finish

The bristles are made of synthetic Taklon and are 100% cruelty free. They are super soft and blend and apply products beautifully. I had very high hopes for these brushes given their cult status in the beauty world and they did not disappoint. I haven’t found much use for the Pointed Foundation Brush but the Contour Brush has made it into my daily routine as my brush of choice for highlighter application. I have really enjoyed applying liquid foundation with the Buffing Brush and also using it for applying powder foundation, blushes, and bronzer. It is another brush from the set getting almost daily use. The Detailer Brush is indeed perfect for precise concealer and lipstick application. I love this multitask brush. I can’t wait to try more brushes from the Real Techniques line now that they have arrived in Canada. I will be picking up another  one of these sets for my pro kit as well.

Real Techniques Brushes by Samantha Chapman Finally Make it to Canada!

I have exciting news! Real Techniques brushes have finally become available in Canada! I have wanted to try these brushes for so long. You would expect a brush created by Sam of Pixiwoo to be exceptional but at the same time I questioned the quality of a synthetic brush at such a reasonable price point. The brushes have been out for quite some time though now and I see them in use by so many bloggers and vloggers that I trust and respect. They have been available to Canadians through a few internationally shipping etailers but I’d yet to take the plunge because none of them seemed terribly convenient to order from. Well now the amazing folks at FarleyCo Canada have them! They will be announcing Canadian retailers shortly but in the meantime you can order direct from FarleyCo! As of now they are only carrying the sets but if the response is favourable enough they will add the individual brushes. I really hope they do because I want the Expert Face Brush!

Designed with pro makeup artist Samantha Chapman (of Pixiwoo fame), Real Techniques brushes combine high-tech materials with innovative design to make creating a pixel-perfect look easier than ever:

Taklon bristles are ultra plush and smoother than the hair you’ll find in other brushes. Since taklon is synthetic, it’s 100% cruelty-free. The soft fibers help create a flawless, high-definition finish in any type of light – from sunlight to harsh indoor lighting. The color-coded system corresponds to the key steps of makeup application so you can create a flawless base, enhanced eyes, and the perfect finish like a pro. Each brush head is hand-cut to the perfect shape, allowing for precise application from dense coverage to a soft, delicate finish. The collection is suitable for a wide range of products and every makeup need – from powders, creams, and liquids to mineral makeup, highlighter, and shimmer.  Brush names on the handles make for  easy reference when creating your favorite look.

Update: They are now being carried at Walmarts across Canada. Farleyco now has the individual brushes available as well!
