Makeup Wars ~ My Favourite Mask

For this weeks Makeup Wars feature I am going to do something I never do, which is review a sample. Now the reason I am breaking my rule is that this was a very generously sized sample that I received in a beauty box and I got weeks of use out of. And I have been missing it ever since it ran out!

The Pure+Simple Calming Cucumber Mask ($25.25 CAD/50 ml) got me through some vary harrowing skin times. I was trying to do my best to get an amazing retinol product to work for me but my dry, sensitive, rosacea afflicted skin would have none of it. My skin was raw, peeling, and sore. The Calming Cucumber Mask was like my little miracle tube. One treatment with the retinol product and I would be red and raw and then one treatment with the Calming Cucumber Mask and my skin was repaired. It was a yo-yo I continued a little longer than I should have but even afterwards I found myself turning to the mask whenever my skin felt overly dry, over exfoliated, or I was suffering from a rosacea flare up. The mask is designed to nourish and calm skin with its cooling and soothing properties and it does a wonderful job of it.

CalmingCucumberMask

The Pure+Simple Calming Cucumber Mask contains Sea Algae to help restore moisture to the skin as well as antioxidants, Grapeseed Extract, and Vitamins A, C, and E. It infuses skin with hydration and plumps up skin cells leaving it feeling renewed and rejuvenated just as promised. Another bonus is you can cool this mask in the refrigerator to provide extra soothing to skin irritated from things such as sunburn and rosacea. You can even use it as an eye mask to help with puffiness and dark circles! You leave the mask on for 30 mins prior to rinsing off to ensure good penetration but you can also do what I did the majority of the time which is leave it on as an overnight treatment and rinse it off in the morning.

I can’t believe I’ve been letting my penny pinching ways keep me from buying a vat of this stuff. I had almost forgotten about how much I loved and then missed this mask. Pure+Simple is a Canadian company and you can find out more, as well as purchase their products, on their website.

Makeup Wars Spa Pampering At Home

I actually don’t indulge in at home pampering treatments often. It has literally been years since I had a bath and I don’t even own any bath products. I have never even tried Lush! Shocker I know. Note I said bath. I do bathe! I just shower. I have been trying to take the time to pamper myself and I will share with you the few at home pampering treatments I am trying to make a habit of treating myself to more often.

At Home Pampering

I think probably one of my favourite spa treatments would be a pedicure. I really do not find doing at home pedicures relaxing or enjoyable though. More a chore you endure to ensure you have presentable feet. It really is necessary to have it performed by someone else to qualify as “pampering”. Hmm, maybe when my daughter gets a little older I will be able to recruit her and enjoy some relaxing, albeit messy, pedicures at home! One product that has really made a huge difference for me with keeping my feet looking pretty at home is the Two Sided Foot File by Dannyco I purchased from NailPolishCanada.com. Any foot files I have picked up at drugstores and the like in the past have been a disappointment. Weak and ineffective. This foot file finally lives up to my expectations with salon quality effectiveness.

MaskerAide Sheet Masks ($4.99 CAD) are Canada’s answer to the Asian sheet mask craze. These masks truly blew me away. The formula and ingredients are truly impressive and they contain enough product you can indulge your decollate, arms, even your legs after as well. You can read my original review on one of my favourite of the six sheet masks, the MaskerAide Hydrating Sheet Mask Weather Warrior Review. Another great brand for affordable at home facial treatments is Montagne Jeunesse. They have various leave on, peel off, and sheet masks that are single use, individually packaged treatments ($1.99-$5.49 CAD) that are distributed by, and available at, FarleyCo Canada, as well as at various stores across Canada. You can see me wearing their Aloe Vera Fabric Mask above. Cute huh!

The ultimate at home spa pampering experience is getting a massage from my husband. Whether it’s a foot rub, or an all out full body massage, I can think of no better way to be pampered in the comfort of my own home. Our favourite massage oil is the Shunga Erotic Art Massage Oil. It feels incredible and smells amazing. I have heard of couples massage classes you can take to learn how to give each other massages. I would love to find one of these in my area to learn some proper techniques. Well who am I kidding? I selfishly want hubs to learn some proper techniques, although I am in now way complaining about his skills thus far.

I was going to try and give you information on some homemade spa treatment recipes but I didn’t like the thought of giving you ideas that I hadn’t tested yet on myself. Maybe another day!

MaskerAide Hydrating Sheet Mask Weather Warrior Review

Have you tried a sheet mask yet? They are all the rage in Asia and like BB Creams are starting to make more of an appearance in North America. MaskerAide is a Canadian brand that is bringing Sheet Masks to Canadians in a fun and effective way. The lineup consists of six hydrating facial sheet masks.
There are three cream based masks (Beauty Rest’ore, I Don’t Wanna Grow Up, and Weather Warrior), and three clear serum based masks (All Nighter, Detox Diva, and Pre Party Prep). I decided to try the Weather Warrior sheet mask first as my skin was irritated and peeling from beginning a new retinol treatment and it is formulated to calm, soothe, and heal stressed out skin.

Whether you’ve spent the day baking on the beach or skiing down the slopes, your skin has taken a beating. Exposure to damaging elements such as harmful UV rays, wind and extreme cold can leave your skin dry, flaky and screaming SOS! Caring for and moisturizing your skin after exposure to the elements is essential. Apply our WEATHER WARRIOR mask with Aloe, Green Tea, Witch Hazel and Argan Oil to help soothe, calm and heal your skin allowing it to breathe a sigh of relief.

I was really happy with the experience of pampering myself with the MaskerAide Weather Warrior Sheet Mask ($4.99 CAD). It felt cool and refreshing on my skin and left it feeling hydrated, plump, and radiant. They are also very generous with the product. There was lots of extra cream in the packet for me to apply to my neck and decolete and after taking the facial mask off I actually rubbed it on my arms and legs to make the most of lovely cream. I can’t wait to try out the other cream and serum based facial sheet masks from MaskerAide. I will keep you posted! How about you? Have you ever tried a sheet mask?
You can purchase the MaskerAide Facial Sheet Masks online at the MaskerAide online store.
