Make Up For Ever Summer 2013 Aqua Collection ~ Photos, Swatches, and Review

The instant I saw the promo images for the MAKE UP FOR EVER Summer 2013 Aqua Collection I was totally, irrevocably, smitten. The shades are just so beautiful and the Aqua products never let me down. I wish I had all the products to show you, (because I NEED them all), but for now I will tempt you with these three beautiful pieces from the collection. I hope to pick up the rest of the Aqua Creams and the Aqua Eye liners as well.

MAKE UP FOR EVER Summer 2013 Aqua Collection

The Make Up for Ever Aqua Creams ($28 CAD/$23 US) are one of my go to products. They are incredible eye shadow bases but also come in shades that are complex enough, and opaque enough, to wear all by themselves or in combo with other Aqua Creams for a budge proof look. The releases for summer are all breathtaking. The gorgeous mint #53 Pearly Pastel Green, the pretty lilac #54 Pearly Mauve, and the glorious #52 Pearly Green Lagoon (shown below).

The summer collection introduces five new shades of MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Rouge ($29 CAD/$24 US). The five new shades bring a welcome injection of vibrancy to the Aqua Lip collection that it had been missing.

  • #16 Fuschia
  • #19 Pomegranate Pink
  • #20 Baby Pink
  • #17 Bright Coral
  • #18 Coral

Something else I found to be new is that some of the new shades include a very fine shimmer. None of the original shades released included any kind of shimmer that I am aware of (and I own eight of them). #18 Coral has a lovely subtle gold shimmer that just makes this already perfect shade of coral even more special. The MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Rouge formula is something truly special. It offers colour that will not move, budge, fade in any way for hour upon hour. I literally scrubbed my lips with a baby wipe and not a speck came off. You simply reapply the glossy topcoat as needed to maintain the glossy finish but the colour will not come off. I find I prefer this formula for really deep or intense shades as you must have the product applied perfectly evenly, as once it’s applied there is no changing it. While Coral is opaque I still have found, amongst all the shades I have, that shades like #8 Iconic Red are still my favourite for this formula. It’s a little easier to just swipe on some more coral or pink gloss or lipstick than it is an intense fuschia or deep wine. If you are headed out for a night on the town and really don’t want to worry about your summer lip fading then you can’t go wrong with these new shades though!

There are two new MAKE UP FOR EVER Aqua Lip ($23 CAD/$19 US) lip liners as part of the Summer 2013 collection. They co-ordinate with their Aqua Rouge counterparts. #19C Pomegranate Pink, and #20C Baby Pink (shown below). Baby Pink is actually a perfect midtoned pink in my eyes. It isn’t the pastel pink the name infers. I think this would be an ideal lip liner for anyone that loves pink lips as it is a very  versatile shade and the Aqua Lip formula offers impeccable waterproof performance.

Yves Saint Laurent Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain 31 Corail Alla Prima for Summer 2013 ~ Photos, Swatches, Review

IMG_2023

If you spend any time at all on this website then you have probably learned by now that I LOVE the YSL Glossy Stains. They are one of my all time favourite lip products. They offer truly incredible colour, gloriously glossy shine, and out of the world staying power. This formula is in a class of it’s own. I am happy to say that I now finally have a deeper shade in my collection. Yves Saint Laurent Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain 31 Corail Alla Prima ($36 CAD/$34 US) from the YSL Summer 2013 collection.

A revolutionary new lip product! Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain combines the texture and shine of a gloss with the long-wear of a stain for a truly innovative lip product. A lightweight texture that immediately melts onto lips. Rouge Pur Couture Vernis à Lèvres Glossy Stain delivers intense glossy colour for an extremely long lasting new kind of shine. The applicator’s unique slanted tip and short soft bristles allow for flawless application with perfect precision.

Corail Alla Prima is a deep, sensuous coral that against my fair skin is almost an orange toned red. As with any YSL Glossy stain, you can go for sheerer coverage and less pigment with one coat, or layer two coats for more impact which is what I’ve shown below. Like my other Glossy Stains this gloss lasts for hours and hours and hours through even through eating and drinking. I can’t live without these!

Lise Watier Gloss Bollywood from the India Gold Summer 2013 Collection ~ Photos, Swatches, and Review

The Lise Watier India Gold Summer 2013 Collection is a feast of bold colours and ornamental accents that is a welcome departure from the usual pinks, corals, and bronzes of summer. “Golden brilliance and oriental exoticism transport us on a warm and luxurious voyage.”

The first piece from this gorgeous collection that I am going to review for you is the Gloss Bollywood ($22 CAD). This gloss is packaged in a gorgeous fat plastic tube with clear plastic cap with a gold core. The gold embossed label is so pretty. The only drawback of this packaging is it’s a bit on the large side.

Gloss Bollywood has a flattened paddle shaped applicator. I think this style of gloss wand has become my favourite.

The shade is a stunning iridescent purple. It is translucent yet packs a good deal of pigment which means it can be worn alone or over a lipstick. It is like a more pigmented version of the beautiful pale iridescent purple gloss from the Aquarella Collection from Spring 2012. I am so in love with this super refined shimmer that gives a subtle iridescent glow. It has a bit of a cushy feel and no stickiness. It has about average wear time for a gloss. I happen to love to scent Lise Watier products have but I have no idea what it is. I’m going to see if I can find out for you.
