Win a Make Up For Ever HD Complexion Starter Kit in Your Shade! – Review & Giveaway

I still remember the release of the Make Up For Ever HD High Definition Foundation and all the associated hype. Even though one of my favourite foundations has always been Make Up For Ever Face & Body I somehow managed to go all this time without trying the infamous HD. Well I have finally tried it and I have an opportunity for you to win a chance to try it yourself. So what did I think?

If you are going to try out the HD Foundation what better way to do it than with the Make Up For Ever HD Complexion Starter Kit ($92 CAD).

First off the Make Up For Ever HD High Definition Foundation has an extensive shade range of 26 shades. It is one of the most impressive out there. The shade 115 Ivory is a wonderful match for me. It’s a tad dark but I need to work around my freckles! There are also some really fair shades that are more pink toned but I wanted to keep the shade more neutral to cancel out some of the pink in my skin rather than accentuate it. This foundation offers medium coverage with a very natural finish. I have been loving it.

Another great thing about this complexion kit for me was finally trying the Make Up For Ever HD High Definition Primer. For some reason I have always thought this was a standard silicone type primer. I’m not a huge fan of silicone primers so I had never tried it. While the HD Primer is silicone based it does not have the texture or feel of a typical silicone primer. Rather it has a light lotion like consistency and feels very hydrating thanks to the D-Panthenol & Glycerin. The kit also contains the small sized version of the HD High Definition Powder which is a translucent setting powder that offers a flawless and lightly mattified yet natural finish. The kit includes a incredibly soft Kabuki Brush for application of the HD Powder.

Step By Step Flawless Complexion with Benefit Cosmetics

I think an area where Benefit Cosmetics really excels is with their complexion products. I thought it might be fun to show you a step by step progression of creating a “Hello Flawless” complexion with Benefit Cosmetics products.

To begin, the dreaded beauty blogger sacrifice of a naked face shot:

Next we see how dramatic a change the application of Benefit The POREfessional Pro Balm Primer ($36 CAD) and Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Brightening Makeup ($44 CAD) Foundation in I’m Pure for Sure Ivory makes. I have been wearing this combo a lot lately as it offers a great match, great coverage, and a lovely natural finish on my dry skin.

Next I used the FakeUp Concealer ($29 CAD) in 01 Light under my eyes and the Boing Concealer ($26 CAD) in 01 (01 and 02 shown below) to conceal some of the redness on my chin and around my nose as well as some of my darker hyper pigmentation. Set the products with the Hello Flawless Powder ($42 CAD) in I Love Me Ivory.

Once the skin is perfected we have to admit that sometimes we look a little dead. We need to bring back in some contours to the face as well as colour. I have used the Hoola Bronzer ($36 CAD) to contour my face and warm up my skin a little. I can’t believe I hadn’t tried this product before. It is a great bronzer that isn’t orange or muddy and works great on fair skin because it isn’t too dark. It’s matte but the powder is soft and creamy. Love. I added a little colour to my cheeks with Dandelion Brightening Face Powder ($36 CAD) which is the prettiest soft pink and beautiful on pale skin. A touch of High Beam Highlighter ($32 CAD) on high points of the face finishes the complexion.

Ta da. A lovely even and perfected canvas that still looks natural. Apply the eye look and lip product of your choice and your ready to face the world.

Make Up For Ever Foundation Nation Campaign – Solve Your Foundation Challenges!

FNC Poster_8.5x11_ENG

MAKE UP FOR EVER is launching their Foundation Nation Campaign this month. The brand commissioned a comprehensive study on foundation. It revealed that 73% of women find it challenging to find the right foundation. Finding the right shade was troublesome for 54% of women while 62% had trouble applying it. 52% don’t even use any tools when applying it. A whopping 72% of women said they don’t make any changes to their foundation with the seasons even though their skin colouring, and skin type, can change dramatically throughout the year. MAKE UP FOR EVER wants to help women solve their foundation woes so they are hosting events at all Sephora stores across Canada from September 19th through October 6th to help diagnose their biggest foundation issues through a complimentary 15 minute foundation lesson. They will educate clients on proper complexion product choices and application techniques and demonstrate on half of the clients face. The client is asked to complete the other side of their face as it empowers them to learn the application techniques themselves for use at home.

I got to experience the complexion lesson this past Saturday and also had the opportunity to meet the incredibly lovely celebrity makeup artist Troy Jensen. He was full of wonderful tips that I will hopefully go into more details with you about soon as well as more info on the new MAKE UP FOR EVER Artisan brush line. Here is a selfie of me and Troy. I really need to learn how to smize!
