Beauty Blogger Top Ten Tuesday – Top 10 Concealers and Correctors

This week the Beauty Blogger Top Ten Tuesday members are sharing our top 10 concealers. To me an important part of concealing is correcting so here are my Top 10 Concealers and Correctors that I use in both my personal and professional life.

Top Ten Tuesday Concealers-page-001

I have categorized this somewhat for organization but these are all multi use products and you need not limit them to the grouping I’ve assigned them. I certainly don’t!

Waterproof Concealers

When you want high coverage that won’t budge a concealer like this is essential. This is the most used concealer in my professional kit.

Under Eye Concealers

Not all concealers can cut it under the eyes. You want to choose a concealer that has brightening effect to wake up your eyes as well as one that has a light yet hydrating consistency that won’t cake up and settle in fine lines while still offering adequate coverage.

Illuminating Concealers

The most famous concealer in this category is the YSL Touche Eclat. It’s a cult favourite and comes in many brightening shade. While the Touche Eclat doesn’t offer that much coverage there are many more highlighting concealer pens on the market that offer the illumination with additional coverage.

Correcter and Concealer Palettes

These products feature not only concealing properties but also correctors for cancelling out the unwanted discolouration that we are trying to conceal. Shades such as peach to counteract blueness under the eyes, yellow to counteract purple, green to eliminate redness, pink to neutralize grey and brown, lavender to add radiance and combat dullness, and orange to counteract ashiness in dark skin tones.

Step By Step Flawless Complexion with Benefit Cosmetics

I think an area where Benefit Cosmetics really excels is with their complexion products. I thought it might be fun to show you a step by step progression of creating a “Hello Flawless” complexion with Benefit Cosmetics products.

To begin, the dreaded beauty blogger sacrifice of a naked face shot:

Barefaced

Next we see how dramatic a change the application of Benefit The POREfessional Pro Balm Primer ($36 CAD) and Hello Flawless Oxygen Wow Brightening Makeup ($44 CAD) Foundation in I’m Pure for Sure Ivory makes. I have been wearing this combo a lot lately as it offers a great match, great coverage, and a lovely natural finish on my dry skin.

Next I used the FakeUp Concealer ($29 CAD) in 01 Light under my eyes and the Boing Concealer ($26 CAD) in 01 (01 and 02 shown below) to conceal some of the redness on my chin and around my nose as well as some of my darker hyper pigmentation. Set the products with the Hello Flawless Powder ($42 CAD) in I Love Me Ivory.

Hello Flawless Boing

Once the skin is perfected we have to admit that sometimes we look a little dead. We need to bring back in some contours to the face as well as colour. I have used the Hoola Bronzer ($36 CAD) to contour my face and warm up my skin a little. I can’t believe I hadn’t tried this product before. It is a great bronzer that isn’t orange or muddy and works great on fair skin because it isn’t too dark. It’s matte but the powder is soft and creamy. Love. I added a little colour to my cheeks with Dandelion Brightening Face Powder ($36 CAD) which is the prettiest soft pink and beautiful on pale skin. A touch of High Beam Highlighter ($32 CAD) on high points of the face finishes the complexion.

Clarins Instant Concealer in 01 – Photos, Swatches, Review

ClarinsInstantConcealer1

There is a new concealer on the scene that has found a special place in my routine. The Clarins Instant Concealer is formulate to conceal dark under eye circles with its special tint and it’s Light Optimizing + complex, a Clarins exclusive that instantly captures, diffuses and amplifies light. Fine lines and minor imperfections are visibly reduced. The complexion is left even-looking and radiant.

The Instant Concealer not only conceals but treats with:

  • Aloe Vera extract to smooth and comfort the eye area.
  • Caffeine to reduce dark circles.

This concealer performs beautifully on the under eye area. It is light yet offers good coverage, it is resistant to creasing, and it leaves the area looking bright not dull, cake, or crepey. I must admit I have broken the rules and have been using this concealer on all areas of my face. Since late spring I have been favouring very light coverage foundations and BB Creams. I do have areas on my chin and nose where I struggle with a lot of redness and also some small pimples. The Clarins Instant Concealer has worked so well to conceal these areas yet maintain the light, fresh look of the rest of my sheer complexion. I use it on my nose, center of my chin, around my nose, and sometimes even on the top of my cheekbones where my rosacea most effects, as well as my under eye area of course. The dreamy coverage and lovely finish of this concealer has made me anxious to experience some of Clarins foundations.
