The Power Trio from Benefit Cosmetics. A mix of hydrating, concealing, and emphasizing product for the eye area that really take your eyes from dopey to dramatic.

It’s Potent Eye Cream ($39 CAD) – This eye cream contains a peptide complex known to help restore elasticity and firmness, a blend of hydrating botanical extracts including apple extract, known to help boost collagen, & loquat extract, known to help protect the skin from free radical damage. It fades dark circles and helps smooth fine lines for brighter and younger looking eyes. Sign me up! I haven’t used it long enough to speak to its long term benefits but so far I can tell you that it feels amazing and instantly hydrates and smooths out my eye area. It feel incredibly rich yet light at the same time and feels amazing right out of the fridge in the morning!

They’re Real Mascara ($29 CAD) – Lengthens, curls, separates, lifts, and volumizes. Check out my original review of They’re Real for more info on this incredible mascara. One of my current faves.

FakeUp Concealer ($29 CAD) – I have been using this concealer daily. I am totally smitten. Not only does this hydrating, crease-control concealer perform beautifully in the eye area as I detailed in my Fakeup Concealer review last month but I have also discovered it works great at concealing other areas of my face wear I experience redness and dry flaky skin from eczema. This wonderfully hydrating concealer has not only improved the condition of my undereye area through it’s regular use but has been a blessing for covering and soothing my dry patches without emphasizing the flaky skin.

Check out the before and after results of the Power Trio via the One Eye Challenge. We were presented with this challenge as part of the truly amazing Rest and Reveal event Benefit Cosmetics treated a lucky few of us to at the gorgeous Four Seasons Toronto Hotel Spa. I must admit these results aren’t as dramatic as they could be as even my naked eye looks far better than usual after the incredibly luxurious and pampering facial I received. The Spa at the Four Seasons is really beautiful and the whole experience of being there is very relaxing.

Elizabeth Arden Violet Bloom Eye Shadow Trio from Spring 2013 New York In Bloom Collection ~ Photos, Swatches, Review

IMG_2058

The New York In Bloom Spring 2013 Collection from Elizabeth Arden has some absolutely beautiful packaging. This eye shadow trio is housed in a golden compact with clear plastic set into the lid that reveals a purple and mirrored flower design below with the Red Door logo embossed in the center. Inside the compact you will find the  Elizabeth Arden New York In Bloom Collection Violet Bloom Eye Shadow Trio ($38 CAD/$32 US) is a refreshing alternative for neutral look.

The shades include a nicely pigmented metallic taupe, very sheer soft pink with flecks of iridescent glitter, and a matte deep smokey violet grey that is very sheer yet that makes this intimidating in the pan shade, very soft and wearable in the crease.

When I swatched this palette I was, at first, very disappointed in the pigmentation level of the pink and smoky violet grey. While the pink does indeed make for a very subtle effect the sheerness of the smokey grey creates a really lovely haze of colour in the crease that you can build up a little more in the outer corner. The overall effect of the palette is a very pretty, soft, romantic, neutral eye.

Yves Saint Laurent Marrakesh Sunset Eye Palette for Summer 2013 ~ Photos, Swatches, and Review

Glowing Saharienne sunset shades of violet, gold, coral, and bronze. Such a refreshing departure from the usual summer collection colour palettes. The Yves Saint Laurent Marrakesh Sunset 5 Colour Eye Shadow Palette ($72 CAD/$58 US) is my first experience with the YSL Ombres 5 Lumieres palettes. A very different experience from the Pure Chromatics Wet Dry Eyeshadow quads we have seen in previous collections and that I have become hopelessly addicted to. The shades, clockwise, are a bronze brown with subtle golden shimmer, bright violet with purple and teal shimmer, shimmery gold, shimmery coral peach, and the center strip is beige with stunning sparkle.

The packaging is gorgeous. The slender gold packaging we have become accustomed to from YSL with the added touch of a truly beautiful design etched on the lid.

At first I didn’t think I was going to like this palette. The eye shadow formula is a very dry one with a somewhat sheer pigment level. Not what I would typically ever go for. I was also a little uncomfortable with the level of shimmer you see when you behold these eyeshadows in the compact. When I applied the Marrakesh Sunset Palette my preconceptions were totally turned on their head. First of all, in terms of shimmer, the bottom left peachy coral shade and violet shade apply almost completely matte on the lid. Most of the shimmer flecks disappear when you tap off your brush. The top left bronze shade actually works quite well in the crease as it’s base is mostly matte as well and the shimmer is a lot more subtle than it appears in the pan. The gold maintains a good amount of it’s shimmer which is a good thing with this shade and the centre strip of maintains a strong level of multi faceted shimmer which is perfect for the inner corner. The effect of this whole palette on the eyes is truly lovely. The violet shade imparts magic on the lids. It is so vibrant yet has this soft diffused effect. I will show you a full look featuring the Yves Saint Laurent Summer 2013 collection soon!
