Beauty Blogger Top Ten Tuesday – Top 10 Palettes

This week for the Beauty Blogger Top Ten we are sharing our Top 10 Makeup Palettes. Who doesn’t love a good makeup palette? It is an amazing way to get a variety of shades in one convenient location, not to mention they are usually a great deal! I thought it would be fun to show a mix of old favourites, new favourites, and a few I’ve yet to try, but long to.

Top Ten Palettes

In no particular order:

  1. KAT VON D Spellbinding Eye Shadow Book ($66 CAD) – This is an incredible palette of pigmented, beautiful and layer-able shades. You NEED this palette. It is unbelievable!
  2. TARTE Off The Cuff Amazonian Clay 12-Hour Blush Palette & Bracelet ($50 CAD) -This blush palette filled with a well rounded assortment of pigmented shades.
  3. HOURGLASS Ambient Lighting Palette ($67 CAD) – I have been using this palette daily all over my face and to highlight. MAD LOVE.
  4. LAURA MERCIER Artist’s Palette for Eyes ($60 CAD) – Sorry, another review coming soon. A great selection of shadows that’s a bit different than your standard neutrals. The best part is the majority are matte shades!
  5. NARS Guy Bourdin Holiday Collection Limited Edition One Night Stand Cheek Palette ($72 CAD) – A palette of six NARS blush shades included old favourites and new shades. Need I say more.
  6. URBAN DECAY Vice Palette 2 ($68 CAD) –  I am finding it hard to resist this palette with a combination of gorgeous neutrals and fun colours.
  7. URBAN DECAY Naked Basics Palette ($32 CAD) – We all need more quality matte neutral shadows in our life!
  8. SMASHBOX Heat Wave Eye Shadow Palette ($54 CAD) – I have heard great things about this palette and love the slightly different take on neutrals.
  9. URBAN DECAY Naked Palette ($62 CAD) –  I don’t know why I don’t just do a review already of this go to palette. It’s worth the bit of fall out to have such a great selection of neutral shades at your fingertips.
  10. theBalm ‘Nude’tude’ Eyeshadow Palette ($36 US) –  A nude/neutral lovers dream palette that includes a variety of matte shades as well as shimmer. I need to finally try this!

Limited Edition Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette Set – Photos, Swatches, Review

I must admit that I was positively giddy when the new Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette Set arrived on my doorstep.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette1

The set comes nestled in a shiny red and gold box.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette2

There is a cute little 5ml Veil Mineral Primer included.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette3

The packaging is similar to the standard Ambient Lighting Powder packaging but it is longer and narrower.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette4

The Hourglass Ambient Lighting Palette (USD $58 | CAD $67) contains two existing shades (Dim Light and Radiant Light) and one new limited edition shade (Incandescent Light). It also comes with a 5ml-size Veil Mineral Primer to create the perfect canvas for your holiday look. Each shade is 3.3 grams for a total product weight of 9.9 grams. The regular individual Ambient Lighting Powders are 10 grams each meaning this palette of 3 shades is equivalent to 1 full sized pan product wise. Therefore you are paying more per gram for the convenience of having more than one shade in one compact. I think it is totally worth it! I don’t often finish a product given the collection I have so having 3 shades rather than one is a huge benefit for me.

  • Dim Light: A neutral peach beige powder that blurs imperfections and highlights a radiant complexion with a balance of warm and cool tones.
  • NEW Incandescent Light: A pearlescent powder that highlights the cheekbones and brightens the complexion with a celestial glow.
  • Radiant Light: A sun-kissed golden beige powder that enhances the overall complexion with believable, subtle warmth.

Hourglass Ambient Lighting2

Swatches with the other Ambient Lighting shades I own; Mood Light, Ethereal Light, Diffused Light, then Dim Light, Incandescent Light, Radiant Light

Hourglass Ambient Lighting1

I have been itching to own Dim Light ever since these were released. I am not disappointed. It has the same finish as Mood Light which makes it a little more glowy than Ethereal Light and Diffused Light while still not being shimmery. The new shade Incandescent Light as well as Radiant Light have more noticeable shimmer. Incandescent has lovely fine greeny/blue and pink micro shimmer in a soft nude pink base while Radiant is golden micro shimmer in a bronze base. When I say noticeable shimmer I mean in comparison to the other shades of Ambient Lighting Powder. They are still very refined and subtle and suitable for all over use with a light hand. If you enjoy a subtle highlight as I do then you will adore Dim Light and Incandescent Light for a gorgeous, natural glow.

For more information on the Ambient Lighting Powders you can check out my previous reviews  here and here.

Available now at and coming soon to Barneys New YorkBergdorf Goodman, Sephora, and Space NK.
