Beauty Blogger Top Ten Tuesday | My Top 10 Red Liptsticks

Beauty Blogger Top Ten Reds1

Valentine’s Day always has us dreaming in shades of red, so this week the Beauty Blogger Top Ten members are showing you our Top 10 Favourite Red Lipsticks! I love a beautiful red. Unfortunately I rarely have the nerve to wear them out of the house! It just seems so dramatic on me.

Top Ten Red Lipsticks

This list is in no particular order. (Except number 1, which happens to be my absolute favourite!)

  1. Make Up For Ever Aqua Rouge in #8 – This liquid lipstick can be worn without the top coat for a matte finish or with the top coat for a high impact glossy red. This formula does not budge. I mean once you put this on it is basically on until you take it off unless you eat something really oily. This is one of the only reds I can feel confident wearing out because a) I know it isn’t going to transfer and b) it looks fan-frickin-tastic.
  2. Giorgio Armani Lip Maestro in #400 – This is one stunning red lipstick. The formula and shade are just jaw dropping. The only issue with this lipstick is that it transfers like crazy. You do not want to be wearing this out for a hot make out session or it is going to end up looking like a crime scene!
  3. Sephora Collection Rouge Infusion Lip Ink in Red Essence – These new Sephora Lip Inks are amazing. Crazy opaque pigment in one super light feeling swipe. The deep red of Red Essence is gorgeous and long lasting.
  4. NARS Velvet Matte Lip Pencil in Mysterious Red – Amazing vibrant, silky, long wearing red. This is every red lipstick wearer’s dream.
  5. Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in 999 – The recently reinvented Rouge Dior lipstick formula is heavenly and this blue based red is a stunner.
  6. Dior Rouge Dior Lipstick in Trafalgar – Another sumptuous Rouge Dior lipstick. This time in a fabulous orange red.
  7. Clarins Rouge Eclat Satin Finish Age-Defying Lipstick in Passion Red – Another incredible lipstick formula is this one from Clarins. This glowing blue based red is to die for.
  8. Clarins Rouge Eclat Satin Finish Age-Defying Lipstick in Red Wine – Another lovely Rouge Eclat lipstick. This time with a slightly sheerer finish in a feisty red wine tone.
  9. Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture The Mats in Rouge Rock – This is another one of my all time favourite, can’t be beat, red lipsticks. The formula, shade, wear, all fantastic!
  10. Covergirl Lipperfection Lipcolour in Seduce – Looking for a universally flattering stunning glossy red that won’t break the bank? This option from Covergirl fits the bill. Just be careful about transfer.

Makeup Wars – My Favourite Foundations

This week for Makeup Wars we are sharing some of our favourite foundations and BB creams. I have fair skin that is very dry and dehydrated. Sometimes I can have some flakiness around my nose and on my chin. What I look for in a foundation is a formula that will even out the redness in my skin while covering up some of the hyper pigmentation. I need it to have a natural or dewy finish so it doesn’t cause my already dry skin to look look even more parched. It is important to me that I don’t see my foundation and that it doesn’t settle in any lines or emphasize dryness. Now that you know what I look for, let’s see what I love!

Makeup Wars Favorite Foundations

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream - (Light) This is my go too in the summer. It offers SPF 30 mineral protection, a gorgeous dewy finish, and a nice amount of coverage for a bb cream.

Make Up For Ever Face and Body Foundation – (#38) This is one of my all time favourite foundations. It has been on empty forever and I need to restock. It has the most gorgeous natural finish and can be worn sheerly or built up for more coverage. It also happens to be waterproof!

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation – (BR10) I still need to try shade B10 to see if it’s a better match but even though BR10 isn’t quite the perfect shade match I still adore the feel and finish of this exquisite foundation. It offers medium coverage that can come closer to full on me.

Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup - (#3) While this foundation doesn’t look the best on me when my dry skin is really acting up I still love the amazing texture and lightweight feel of this innovative dry oil foundation that offers incredible coverage with a weightless feel.

Make Up For Ever HD Foundation - (#118) I had tried this years ago and didn’t think I liked it on my dry skin. Now that I’ve had the opportunity to give it another chance I have fallen for MUFE HD. It offers medium coverage and is a go to for me when I want a foundation I can put on quickly and know it will look natural.

Face Atelier Ultra Foundation – (#1) This is the foundation I use in my professional kit to give my clients a flawless finish. They are always amazed at the coverage this foundation offers while looking and feeling natural. I really need to get myself my own personal bottle of this for my vanity. I’ve never seen a foundation cover so well yet look so natural.

Ellis Faas Skin Veil Foundation – (S101) This foundation may be pricey but when you want beautiful undetectable coverage with a gorgeous finish this foundation is one of the best.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Time Defying Foundation – (Quinoa Cream) Another beautiful foundation for those of us with dry skin. It doesn’t have a very large shade range but if you can make one of them work the formula and effect of this foundation is truly lovely.

There are certainly many amazing foundations out there and to be fair I should let you know that I haven’t tested all that many. Let’s face it, foundations are pricey. They also are only good for so long once open so if I have a few that are working shade wise I don’t try and find anything new. I wish I could be a foundation junkie and try them all but I am far too frugal! I would love to hear your favourites. Especially if you have fair dry skin like me!

Get the Look | Cate Blanchett at the Golden Globes 2014

I don’t think anyone can argue that Cate Blanchett, who won Best Performance by an Actress in a Motion Picture – Drama for her work in Blue Jasmine, had one of the most stunning and sophisticated looks at the Golden Globes on Sunday night. Everything from top to bottom was pure glamour.

71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Press Room

She wore an Armani Privé black lace and tulle gown. The delicately embroidered dress is highlighted by a high neck, open back and cap sleeves creating a dramatic effect. The form-fitted bodice drapes into a gauzy layered skirt, dotted throughout with shimmering black Swarovski crystals, enhancing an elegant and regal silhouette.

For her makeup, makeup artist Jeanine Lobell kept the look soft and romantic not wanting to do the expected red lip to go with her gorgeous Armani black gown.

71st Annual Golden Globe Awards - Arrivals

Lancôme Hypnôse Waterproof Custom Volume Mascara - Jeanine piled on layers and layers to both the top and bottom lash line, combined with individual flares, to create dramatic lashes.
Chanel Les 4 Ombres Quadra Eye Shadow in Intuition and Illusion D’Ombre Long Wear Luminous Eyeshadow in Emervielle - By blending the pinky-beige and goldy-beige shades and dusting them from the lid to the lash line, in addition to adding a pop of Emervielle to the lid, Jeanine was able to create dimension without using any liners.
Nars Brow Shader and Brow Gel - Jeanine created a defined but not too harsh brow

The Look: Sophisticated Underwrap Hairstyle with a Fresh Edge
Robert and Cate went for a timeless look – a style that was perfectly suited for one of the biggest award shows of the year. Inspired by Grace Kelly’s classic hair look, Cate knew they wanted to create a glamorous look from head to toe. Cate’s classic and captivating hairstyle is truly timeless and complements her Armani Couture black lace dress with a low back. To finish the look, Robert tucked her hair on the left side to showcase the gorgeous Chopard earrings.

Here’s how Robert created Cate’s look:

First prep damp hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Boost & Lift Foaming Air Mousse, applying throughout the hair for lift and hold.
Create a low side part and then starting in the back, take a medium boar bristle round brush and blow dry hair down and away from the face, keeping hair flat. Apply a bit more mousse to the front of your hair to help shape your style while giving extra hold to your look.
Once hair is dry, spritz Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Heat Protect & Shine Spray to protect hair before curling it. Using a ¾ inch curling iron, take hair in the back of your head, separate into 2 inch sections and curl.
Once the curled hair has cooled, backcomb to create texture and roll hair up into an “underwrap” style, pinning the look into place. Once all the hair has been rolled and pinned, pull a few pieces of hair from the “underwrap” to create a natural look with a little texture.
To finish, spray hair with Vidal Sassoon Pro Series Flexible Hold Hairspray to lock your look in place.
