Makeup Wars – My Favourite Foundations

This week for Makeup Wars we are sharing some of our favourite foundations and BB creams. I have fair skin that is very dry and dehydrated. Sometimes I can have some flakiness around my nose and on my chin. What I look for in a foundation is a formula that will even out the redness in my skin while covering up some of the hyper pigmentation. I need it to have a natural or dewy finish so it doesn’t cause my already dry skin to look look even more parched. It is important to me that I don’t see my foundation and that it doesn’t settle in any lines or emphasize dryness. Now that you know what I look for, let’s see what I love!

Makeup Wars Favorite Foundations

Maybelline Dream Fresh BB Cream - (Light) This is my go too in the summer. It offers SPF 30 mineral protection, a gorgeous dewy finish, and a nice amount of coverage for a bb cream.

Make Up For Ever Face and Body Foundation – (#38) This is one of my all time favourite foundations. It has been on empty forever and I need to restock. It has the most gorgeous natural finish and can be worn sheerly or built up for more coverage. It also happens to be waterproof!

Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua Foundation – (BR10) I still need to try shade B10 to see if it’s a better match but even though BR10 isn’t quite the perfect shade match I still adore the feel and finish of this exquisite foundation. It offers medium coverage that can come closer to full on me.

Giorgio Armani Maestro Fusion Makeup - (#3) While this foundation doesn’t look the best on me when my dry skin is really acting up I still love the amazing texture and lightweight feel of this innovative dry oil foundation that offers incredible coverage with a weightless feel.

Make Up For Ever HD Foundation - (#118) I had tried this years ago and didn’t think I liked it on my dry skin. Now that I’ve had the opportunity to give it another chance I have fallen for MUFE HD. It offers medium coverage and is a go to for me when I want a foundation I can put on quickly and know it will look natural.

Face Atelier Ultra Foundation – (#1) This is the foundation I use in my professional kit to give my clients a flawless finish. They are always amazed at the coverage this foundation offers while looking and feeling natural. I really need to get myself my own personal bottle of this for my vanity. I’ve never seen a foundation cover so well yet look so natural.

Ellis Faas Skin Veil Foundation – (S101) This foundation may be pricey but when you want beautiful undetectable coverage with a gorgeous finish this foundation is one of the best.

Rouge Bunny Rouge Time Defying Foundation – (Quinoa Cream) Another beautiful foundation for those of us with dry skin. It doesn’t have a very large shade range but if you can make one of them work the formula and effect of this foundation is truly lovely.

There are certainly many amazing foundations out there and to be fair I should let you know that I haven’t tested all that many. Let’s face it, foundations are pricey. They also are only good for so long once open so if I have a few that are working shade wise I don’t try and find anything new. I wish I could be a foundation junkie and try them all but I am far too frugal! I would love to hear your favourites. Especially if you have fair dry skin like me!

Makeup Wars – 5 of My Favourite Cruelty Free Products

 photo cruelty-free-drugstore-makeup.jpg

While I am not an exclusively cruelty free product user it is not difficult to come up with favourite cruelty free items. The difficulty lies in narrowing it down to just a few. There are so many amazing brands and products out there that are cruelty free. I decided to draw from some of my most used items.

CrueltyFreeMakeupWars1

Three of the items listed are actually my most used and loved products in my professional kit. I love them for personal use of course as well! They are:

FACE atelier Cosmetics Ultra Foundation ($34/20ml $48/30ml) - I have the smaller pro sized bottles in my kit. It is pretty much the only foundation I use in my professional life. This foundation offers amazing coverage with the most beautiful natural finish that looks like skin. They have an incredible shade range along with a series of adjusters like Zero Minus ( a white shade to lighten foundation shades), Zero Plus (to darken), Heat (to warm up a shade), and Zero Plus Plus (to really deepen a shade with less warmth). It is a very silicone rich formula but feels incredibly light on the skin. My clients are always commenting on how they can’t feel their makeup. Love this stuff! Plus FACE atelier is a Canadian brand!

Urban Decay Naked Palette ($60 CAD)- This is another product in my professional kit that get regular use. It is such a great all in one palette of gorgeous neutrals. The best part is that it contains 2 fabulous matte shades for the crease. I love the variety of looks that can be created with this palette and the convenience. The only draw out is that these shadows create a lot of fallout so I always make sure to do eyes first when I utilize it.

theBalm Shadow/Blushes ($21 US) - Beautiful natural shades in a matte finish that is flattering not chalky. Perfect for brides. My favourites are DownBoy and FratBoy.

Two products that I use pretty much daily in my personal use are:

EcoTools Domed Bronzer Brush ($9.99 US) – This cruelty free bronzer brush is just amazing. Soft, dense, perfect, and cheap!

DermOrganic Products - And I mean pretty much ALL DermOrganic Products with Argan Oil. The only ones I don’t use and adore are the leave in treatments as they contain silicone which I avoid because it weighs down my fine curly hair. Their Shampoo, Conditioner, Masque, Volume Foam, Sculpting Spray Gel, Defining Whip, and Fast Dry Shaping Spray are all incredible products that have become part of my regular routine.

Foundation Swatches for the Perilously Pale

I am FINALLY posting some foundation swatches for you. I can’t believe that I started Perilously Pale over a year ago and have never done foundation swatches, or reviews for that matter, for you. I apologize. Helping my fellow fair complected beauties navigate the world of beauty was my reason for starting this website and not having done this earlier is unacceptable. Bad blogger!

Here are swatches of the following foundations:

Cover FX Cream Foundation E0
Cover FX Cream Foundation C10
Face Atelier Ultra Foundation 1
Make Up For Ever Face and Body #38
Bobbi Brown Natural Finish in Porcelain
Revlon Colorstay in 110 Ivory
Rouge Bunny Rouge Milk Aquarelle Foundation in Coconut Milk Parfait
Chanel Vitalumiere Aqua in BR10
Le Metier de Beaute Peau Vierge in Shade 1
Le Metier de Beaute Classic Flawless Foundation in Shade 2

For reference my arm is likely about NW10. My face is between NW10-15. I’m starting to discover that going closer to a NW15 blends in better with my freckles. If I match my skin my foundation can look too artificial over my freckles but if I match somewhere in between the colour of my skin and the colour of my freckles it looks more natural.
