Dior 3 Couleurs Smoky Palette in 961 Smoky Violet from Purple Revolution ~ Swatches, Photos, Review

I’ve expressed my love for the Dior Smoky Trios before with my reviews of Smoky Pink and Smoky Brown. The colour pairings and formula in these trios are gorgeous so when I saw the beautiful Purple Revolution offering I was immediately smitten.
Smoky Violet did not disappoint. It offers the same smooth, pigmented formulas as the other Dior 3 Couleurs Smoky Ready-to-Wear Smoky Eyes Palettes I have tried and the finish of the eyeshadows are  truly lovely. The upper left purple has a gorgeous satin finish and buttery texture perfect for the crease. The more intense violet on the right has the most stunning shimmer and dimension while still remaining classy. The bottom base shade is a little more softly pigmented just as it should be for it’s purpose as a base. It offers the perfect glow for the brow bone and inner corner of the eye.
I wanted to get this review up before this sold out so I don’t have look photos to share with you just yet. I will try to get a Face of the Day post up shortly using this palette because the results are so pretty. I did experience a small amount of creasing and fading throughout the day but it was only visible on close scrutiny.
This is a Bay and Nordstrom exclusive. It is still available on the Nordstrom website and was available online at the Bay until recently. Hopefully it is still floating around some counters too because if you love purple you need to take part in Dior’s Purple Revolution with Smoky Violet.

Dior Diorskin Nude Tan Healthy Glow Enhancing Powder in 002 Sunlight

After winning the darker Diorskin Nude Tan Healthy Glow Enhancing Powder in 004 Sunset in a blog giveaway I was so impressed with the formula and finish that I knew I wanted to find the one more suitable for my complexion 002 Sunlight. When the bronzers were first released with Dior’s summer 2012 collection I had considered trying it out but had managed to talk myself out of the purchase. I was kicking myself for possibly missing out as it was starting to appear that it was sold out everywhere. I was delighted to find it at Shoppers Drug Mart a few weeks ago when I was on a bit of a shopping spree.
The palette comes in a large box as included with the powder is an adorable mini kabuki brush of excellent quality.
Both are protected by their own black velvet pouch.
I love the quilted, shiny silver packaging. So luxe and sturdy.
Isn’t the presentation lovely. I love the embossed letters and variations in colour. You will be happy to know that after several weeks use I can say that it appears these shades trasnlate all the way down through the powder. I had hoped the pink toned powder would be more prominent in the overall swatch. Sunlight is definitely more pink toned than it’s darker counterpart Sunset but the overall tone of the shade is still quite peach.
Here is 002 Sunlight and 004 Sunset together for you. You can see Sunset is much darker and much more orange toned than Sunlight. Both shades have a nice subtle shimmer that gives a bit of a glow without looking shimmery. The glow is a little more prominent with Sunlight.

002 Sunlight    004 Sunset

004 Sunset       002 Sunlight

004 Sunset      002 Sunlight blended out.

Even though the Diorskin Nude Tan Healthy Glow Enhancing Powder in 002 Sunlight isn’t as pink toned as I had hoped I am still extremely happy with it and have been wearing it regularly. You can see in the blended out swatch above that it does blend in very nicely with my skintone for a healthy dose of colour.
I wore it in my Guerlain Les Fauves Face of the Day if you would like to see it in action.
It appears to still be available online at Saks Fifth Avenue, Nordstrom,  and Sephora.

Dior Golden Jungle Crocodile Leather Effect Nails Duo from Fall 2012 ~ Swatches, Photos, Review

I don’t know why but as soon as I saw the Dior promo pictures for the Golden Jungle Crocodile Leather Effect Nail Duo I just had to have it. Weird since I had NEVER tried a crackle polish. I know crackle has been all the rage for a while now but it just never appealed to me. I had no interest in trying it. This deep khaki green over shimmering gold with the crocodile skin effect just looked lovely though. Crackle and all! I had no idea when I would make it to a Shoppers Drug Mart or The Bay to pick a set up and worried about it selling out so my lovely friend picked it up for me and mailed it to me. Thank you!
Now being my first attempt with crackle I wasn’t exactly skilled. There are instructions included which specified applying the top coat no more than 2 mins after the base to make sure it wasn’t completely dry so I just did one hand at a time. The application of one even layer of the top khaki coat is where the trouble came in. I had a heck of a time. The first hand I did too thick. Second hand I did too thin and the streaks remained even after the crackle effect appeared. It is not a very self settling polish and getting it thin (but not too thin) and even is quite difficult. Luckily it is pretty quick to do. One coat of gold is enough. It is a bit sheer but since you are going over it anyways it’s no big deal. Then just one coat of crackle and wait. After I was absolutely sure it was dry and done “crackling” I added a top coat.
Left hand: Fail! Too thick and crackled oddly.

Right hand: Getting better crackle wise but notice the sheer patches.

Second attempt: Success!

Now from what I hear this is not available in the US. Correct me if I’m wrong please. I have no idea why they would choose not to release it in the US? I believe the Canadian retail price is around $30.
