shu uemura Ultimate Eye Opening Essentials Including the New S Curler Eye Lash Curler! Photos, Review

shu uemura has assembled a collection of Eye Opening Essentials products that includes skin care, make-up, and new advanced beauty tools as well as tutorials to give everyone the tools and techniques they need for bold eyed beauty.

Probably the most exciting part of the launch is the new S Curler ($27 CAD) eye lash curler!

It has no side bars to ensure it will fit all eye shapes and an internal blade system to prevent any pinching.

The name S Curler name comes from the 8 s words that describe this great new product:

  1. small
  2. spot
  3. special
  4. safe
  5. simple
  6. side-bar free
  7. sophisiticated
  8. and of course she uemura!

The curler comes with a replacement black pad as well as a white silicone cover for the top area. The images show curling your lashes with the white cover in place but I found it pops off a lot and the curler works great without it. I actually just thought the white cover was just for use when storing the lash curler. I know there have been complaints about the white cover always coming off but I don’t find it necessary anyways.

Standard shu uemura eye lash curler compared to the new S Curler

The side-bar free design means no pinching and you can get in so close to your lash line for an amazing curl creating the look of even longer lashes. The small design makes it possible to really get into the inner and outer corners of your eye for ultimate lift. The drawback of the small design is that rather than just curling your lashes once you have to repeat the process about three times. Inner, centre, and outer areas of the lashline. So the trade off for the incredible length and curl you will receive with the S Curler is the little bit of extra time you will have to dedicate to your routine. I think this curler will be great for professional use as I can get right down close to the roots of the lashes without worrying about pinching and hurting my clients. You can really see what you are doing so much easier than with a standard curler.

shu uemura Tokyo Lash Mascara Eye Opening Volume

The Tokyo Lash Mascara Eye Opening Volume ($29 CAD) is my first experience with a she uemura mascara and I am very smitten. I haven’t stopped using this mascara since I received it last week. The crisscross, v-shape “kirenaga” brush manages to coat all my lashes including the ones hiding on the inner corner of my eye. It offers excellent separation and length. The finish is ultra black and glossy thanks to the shu uemura lacquer black long lasting formula. I didn’t experience any smudging or flaking. Because the formula does have a lacquer type finish (similar to a lacquer finish liquid eyeliner) it is a bit difficult to remove.

I have had the new Lasting Soft Gel Pencil ($36) for a while now and it has become a favourite and regular part of my routine. It has all the benefits of a standard gel eyeliner but is in a really convenient super slim twist up pencil design. It is such a quick and amazingly easy way to tightline your upper lashline.

Another part of the Eye Opening Essentials is the TSUYA Skin Youth Infusing Eye Concentrate ($70 CAD).  I haven’t had the opportunity to test the results of this eye treatment long term yet, I will update later, but I can tell you it has a lovely light texture that quickly absorbs into the skin working great under eye makeup and offering better eye shadow payoff. The eye concentrate includes ingredients such as Rhamnose, Umaguri Saponin, and Tripearl Complex to improve elasticity of the eyelid giving a lift to lashes and a more youthful eye opening effect.

To offer the biggest impact you would sculpt the eye with eye shadows but I wanted to show you how dramatic an effect simply applying the eye treatment, tightlining the upper lashline with the Lasting Soft Gel Pencil, curling the lashes with the S Curler, and applying two coats of the Tokyo Lash Mascara gives.

Definitely interested in checking out the new curler! The regular Shu curler gets almost everything, but I’m sure the new one will get to absolutely everything 😉

Exactly! It can get everything because there are no obstructions. 😀
