I am in LOVE. The new Maybelline Color Whisper Lip Colors ($9.99 CAD/$7.49 US) totally exceeded my expectations. I never expected to be so enamoured by a sheer lip product. First of all I have to say I am totally smitten with Maybelline’s packaging lately. The Color Sensational Line in particular is just such beautiful eye candy. From the Color Sensational Lipsticks with their collection coordinating tubes, to the VIVIDS with their neon orange packaging, and now the Color Whispers with their individual shade matching translucent sleeves. They are all just so pretty and practical.
The formula is lovely. The pure colour pigments suspended in a weightless gel gives a healthy does of colour and feels so lightweight. There is no waxy feel like with some of these balm/lipstick hybrids and the glossy finish is just gorgeous. I find them nicely moisturizing and my lips actually feel better with wear. They don’t last long but they with a balm hybrid I don’t think that is to be expected.
These lipstick shades are just so juicy looking. They make me happy just to look at them.
Bare to Be Bold is a beige nude that doesn’t settle in lines or look like concealer lips. Finally a true nude lip shade I love.
Who Wore it Red-er is a pink toned sheer red that comes across as a vibrant hot pink on the lips.
Cherry on Top is a beautiful fuchsia pink and more subtle sister to Who Wore it Red-er
Rose of Attraction is a lovely rose pink. It is the only shade out of the four I have with a subtle shimmer.
They are all nicely pigmented and while sheer, apply evenly. I know Bare to Be Bold looks invisible in my swatch but that is because it is so close to my skin colour. It does a nice job of giving a soft nude look to my lips with a glossy finish. I love Who Wore it Red-er and Cherry on Top for bold but wearable colour. Rose of Attraction has taken up permanent residence in my coat pocket because it’s a great shade for throwing on without a mirror that makes my lips feel moisturized with colour that matches anything.
