Yves Saint Laurent Y Facettes Collector Eye Palette Pure Chromatics for Spring 2013 ~ Photos, Swatches, and Review

One of the star pieces of the Spring 2013 YSL Arty Stone collection is the Limited Edition Y Facettes Palette. It is quad in the usual, amazing, Pure Chromatics Wet/Dry formula (I happen to want ALL of them). It is packaged in a compact adorned with Y facets that capture the light.

The four shades inside are inspired by the brilliance of precious stones. A gorgeous assortment of colours that are more impactful than the usual pastels of spring but a little more subdued than the full jewel tones of fall.

IMG_5480 The shades are:

  • Malachite – An intense, profound green.
  • Flourite – A powdery, iridescent rose.
  • Amethust – A fresh, smoky violet.
  • Azurite – A metallic, lustrous blue.

The following are slightly damp swatches. They are a little more pigmented than when swatched dry but not as intense as when used wet/foiled. You will see that effect when I post my face of the day post! The best thing about these shadows is that they are so easy to work with, even when wet, and the ability to use them dry, damp, and wet gives such flexibility.

The possibilities with this palette are endless. There are so many combinations of two, three, or even all four shades and also the option of just incorporating one of the shades into a look for a pop of colour, combined with the ability to use dry or wet. The iridescent pink with sparkle is a bit sheer but on the eye it is just the right amount of colour. The other shades perform beautifully, especially wet. I am completely infatuated with this quad and can’t wait until the weather permits me to use it more often. This is colour done right!

Here is a sneak peek from an upcoming look post using the entire palette.

The Yves Saint Laurent Y Facettes Eye Collector Palette ($70 CAD) will be available at Holt Renfew, select The BaySephora, and Murale boutiques this month (January 2013). Available in the US here.
