Makeup Wars My Beauty Resolutions for 2013

Lose weight, exercise, live healthier. These are among the most popular New Year’s resolutions. I fall prey to this most years, well most weeks actually. I’m the queen of “starting Monday”. This year I have decided to, yet again, try to follow The Beauty Detox Solution by Kimberly Snyder. I posted about this book back in July 2011. Ya, a year and a half ago. I absolutely love this book and know that this is the type of clean eating I need to follow to feel healthier and more energetic. The biggest struggle will be to go dairy free again. I did it back when I was breastfeeding my son 3 years ago and it was the best I had ever felt, and looked, regardless of the fact I was dealing with his terrible colic and no sleep. I have maintained no milk or ice cream in my diet as my system can simply not handle them anymore after giving them up back then. Cheese, on the other hand, is something I can’t bear the thought of giving up. Cheese, and pizza, are among my most favourite foods. Oh and chocolate. AGH! I know I have to try though. I have put on so much weight and bloat the last couple years and I’m even wondering if the rashes I have been experiencing on my face will subside after I stop abusing myself with the dairy proteins I know I’m intolerant to. I have to try! If you have any interest in joining me in this adventure, and supporting one another, PLEASE let me know!

In order to feel more beautiful, confident, and healthy I’m going to have to start living a more active lifestyle as well. I haven’t decided what sort of exercise plan I want to incorporate. I may try Turbo Fire or Chalean Extreme again. I’ve also considered signing up for Tone It Up as those girls look like so much fun, it sounds like such a supportive community, (and I want Katrina’s butt! Look at that BUTT!) but it’s a little out of the budget right now. Going to a gym isn’t an option where I live so I need to find something I can do, and stick with, at home. I saw an infomercial for Zumba the other day that looked pretty darn fun.

I have many more resolutions for 2013 but most of them aren’t really related to beauty. I already wash my brushes regularly since I’ve found such a quick and painless way of doing it. I always, always wash my face every night. Actually it doesn’t matter how fall down drunk tired I may be I always follow my full beauty routine at night. Call it an obsession. Hmm, what are the other usual beauty resolutions? To make better use of all of the products in one’s collection. Check. I make a very conscious effort of this already. It can’t hurt to try a little harder though. I’ve actually been thinking of taking all my Le Metier de Beaute Kaleidoscopes out of my Z Palette and putting them back in their kaleidoscopes because I haven’t been using them as much as I thought I would depotted. I think the experience of selecting a kaleidoscope to wear for the day may have prompted me to use them more than the freedom of having all the shades at my disposal has. Weird huh? I think another common resolution is to cut back on beauty spending. I have already had to cut back drastically on the amount of beauty products I buy due to financial restrictions and that will have to continue in the future. Neiman Marcus has also helped impose this spending ban by Canada restricting Chanel. Not being able to order US formulations of the quads and Joues Contraste blushes has been heartbreaking for me. Especially the JCs. They are my favourite blush formula. I NEED to be able to continue getting them and will have to become a little more resourceful and get some help from my US blogging buddies. (Not so subtle am I?) ;-) I feel guilty that I won’t always be able to show you the latest and greatest collections but hopefully I can start digging more into some of my tried and true favourites.

My main resolutions for 2013 all revolve around better managing my time and organization. I need to do this to improve Perilously Pale as well as my home life. This is going to be a big undertaking and thinking of it still overwhelms me. Figuring out how to incorporate uninterrupted time with my kids, productive blogging time, keeping my house clean, exercising, preparing healthy meals, etc. etc. seems impossible. I know things aren’t going to improve continuing in my scatterbrained fashion though. The logistics of my organized life have yet to be determined. If you have any tips I’d love to hear them!

A resolution I have for Perilously Pale is to try and branch out beyond doing mostly product reviews as I have been. When I started this blog I had envisioned so much more, but my silly fears have held me back from delving more into the tips, tricks, and tutorials I had always planned to feature. I have this odd issue with the fact that chances are, even if I did come up with the idea, look, or post format on my own, guaranteed someone else has thought of it or posted it first. I have this fear of people thinking I’m stealing material or being unoriginal. I know it’s silly to expect bloggers to have completely unique, original tips and tutorials to share. None of us invented tightlining or contouring, and we are still offering the opportunity to bring awareness to a tip or technique that is new to several readers with a unique voice, but I can’t seem to get over that weird fear.

And, my absolute, number one, resolution for 2013 is to be more positive. I have had a lot of things go on since late 2011 that have shattered my self esteem, confidence and happiness. I have always struggled with it but it has become incredible hard to keep my head above water with the way things have been. I can feel myself drowning but continue to tell myself that I am the only one that can make my life better. I’m not going to get all philosophical on you. I’m not that kind of person. It’s just common sense really. I can’t sit around wallowing in the details of my life that I’m unhappy with and expect things to magically turn around. That takes work, and hopefully a little luck and good karma, to help me along the way. I am so incredibly proud and grateful for the growth Perilously Pale has experienced since I started my little hobby for my unhealthy makeup obsession a little more than a year and a half ago. If it weren’t for the great friendships I’ve made with all the incredible beauty bloggers and readers out there I really can’t imagine where I would be right now. I love you all and want to thank you so much for taking this ride with me and hopefully enjoying what I’ve had to offer. I would love to hear what you would like to see from Perilously Pale in 2013!

You have lofty goals but I have confidence that you’ll be able to meet your resolutions head on. Looking at your two adorable children should bring you inspiration to keep on the right track.
I agree with you on the Le Metier. I think keeping the kaleidoscopes together is better for me even if I forget which one carries a certain favorite shade or two.

I did get a little carried away didn’t I Marcia? I don’t have a hope in hell of making it all happen! LOL

Your kids are so beautiful!!! :) Great resolutions! Keeping a positive outlook and improving your overall health and fitness are always great goals (and ones that I strive for too). Oh, and I am with you about liking smaller palettes too. I tend to always reach for quads over my big palettes (even as much as I love my bigger palettes!). xx

Thanks Pammy! I don’t usually post pics of my family but I figured in snowsuits they’ll remain fairly anonymous. LOL

I love this post but to be honest it really irritates me that things have happened that have rattled you so much. You’re an absolutely fantastic and beautiful person. I wish better things for you and perhaps that starts by getting past the fear.

^^ What Mere said. To a better year for all of us!

  • Elizabeth

It’s my resolution to follow Kimberly Snyder’s diet too! I did it for a while last year and I felt GREAT! Life got in the way, though, so I have since fallen off the wagon. I’ll do it with you!

    • Elizabeth

BTW, I feel for you about the feeling overwhelmed at times too. I am pretty much in the same place as you. My year of 2012 has been brutal with one huge challenge after another. That’s why I let go of my healthy ways that I had been doing with the detox diet. My goal is to focus on getting my health back again in hopes that I will feel the energy and stamina to attack my terrible organizational problem (as well as others!). Gotta start somewhere! :)

      • Christa

I’m sorry you have been having a rough year as well. Here is to 2013 being the best year yet!

    • Christa

Yay! It would be great to do this together! Have you started yet? How would you like to stay in touch?

      • Elizabeth

I’d love to have a buddy keep me accountable! :) I haven’t started yet because my kids all go back to school tomorrow.

When I did this before, I would get a good amount of the ingredients for the green smoothie and make several batches and freeze them in bottles. I would then pull out a bottle to defrost the night before and leave it out on the counter. It was mostly defrosted by the time I was ready to use it in the morning. (I would shake it real well or stir it up well to break up the rest of the ice.) I’m sure it’s better to do it fresh but I have three young kids and a very busy schedule of running them around all the time. It worked for me.

Starting the day out with her green smoothie made me feel healthier within a week and I found I quickly had more stamina. That then led me to making better food choices for my whole family. I also had more energy to work out.

I can make a pact with you to get my act together and start by the end of the week! I love her “diet” because it is really about making lifestyle choices. I try to tackle what I can and, as I am up to it, take on more positive changes. She is very encouraging with her posts to her blog as well. Plus, she just GLOWS. She looks so healthy and beautiful in a real way. I really like that!

Do you have access to my email?

        • Christa

I do have access to your email Elizabeth. Just wanted to make sure you were ok with it first. I’ll contact you later today. I’m thinking I’ll probably do all my shopping Thursday or Friday to get started. I could do my usually “I’ll start on Monday” but I want to do it now! I actually really like the GGS so it will be nice to try and have it on a regular basis again. I can’t wait for more energy!

          • Elizabeth

Sounds great to me! I will do my shopping on Thursday or Friday morn too and get going. I have made a few of her fun salad recipes too but that will come in time again. I was a professional chef so the chopping isn’t a problem for me since I’m fast. What’s the problem is trying to change my style of eating (or anything else really) with 4 males in my house! I feel like a salmon swimming upstream every time I want to make a healthy change for me: it’s hard! I always put myself last.

            • Christa

Exactly! With my hubby and 3 and 5 year old I always feel like I’m just making two meals all the time when I’m trying to eat healthier. Pain in the butt! Have you ever made the Probiotic and Enzyme salad stuff? I need to get some jars I guess.

              • Elizabeth

Not yet. I bought something to make homemade sauerkraut in a few years ago but haven’t tried yet. It’s just been hard to try to have a hobby with the lack of time and energy so I’ve just stuck to my hobby of makeup. Even there, I dream of actually using the stuff I own but half the time I don’t because it takes more time to be creative than I have. I have enjoyed reading your blog because you show ideas. It inspires me to pull out stuff from the crazy stash I have and use it! :)

I am so sorry to know that you’ve had such a rough time of it. I think that 2012 was unpleasant for a lot of people, so here’s to a much better year going forward. I’m always curious to see anything you do on the blog, because I always seem to find out so much from visiting. You’re an amazingly talented lady and I’ll tune in whatever you do.

Here is to more positivity in 2013! I can so relate. Why are we so hard on ourselves?

  • http://www.15minutebeauty.com/ Christine

So…. yeah, I need to actually start working out. I just feel… blah. I have some tummy issues and need to cut out dairy too, but I can’t imagine life without cheese, or more importantly, my beloved International Delights Hazelnut coffee creamer??!! What will I do without hazelnut??

Have they told you to try cutting out dairy Christine. It could very well help a lot. It is hard but once you are doing it you don’t miss it as much. Plus you feel so much better it’s a good incentive. It’s just getting there!
