L’Oreal in Colour Riche Caresse Shine Stain Lipcolour in 193 Eternally Nude, 183 Pink Resistance, and 185 Lilac Ever After
There is a lot of buzz about the new L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Shine Stain Lipcolours ($12.99). Everyone is wondering if they are an affordable alternative to the Yves Saint Laurent Rouge Pur Couture Vernis À Lèvres Glossy Stains. Well right off the bat I will give you my opinion on that. If you are a regular reader of this blog you will know that the YSL Glossy Stains are one of my favourite lip products. That stance has not changed after testing these three shades of L’Oreal Caresse Shine Stains. The formulas are indeed VERY similar. They share the same wet feel on application that sets to a more cushiony feel. They both offer a stain. YSL is part of the L’Oreal group of brands after all. For me the Yves Saint Laurent Glossy Stains still hold out as being my product of choice regardless of their more hefty price tag. I find them more true to colour, more pigmented, longer lasting, more staining, and they set better than the L’Oreal version (at least for the shades I have tested). That being said, the L’Oreal Colour Riche Caresse Shine Stain Lipcolours are still an exceptional product and a very welcome addition to the drugstore scene.

Eternally Nude is a peachy brown nude shade in the tube and when swatched. You will see below that when applied to my lips it darkens considerably and pulls very orange. It morphs from a peachy nude to almost an orange red. While an unexpected result I do enjoy the shade. I just have to remember that what I see in the tube is not the colour I will see on my lips.
Pink Resistance is a pretty, soft, warm pink with very fine shimmer. Just like Eternally Nude though it pulls very warm on my lips and darkens in intensity. Oh how I wish I could get the pretty pink in my swatch in my lips!
Lilac Ever After is a pretty soft mauve with fine shimmer. Yup, you guessed it. On my lips the pretty cool toned lilac/mauve hue is warmed up and altered to an unrecognizable shade.
I have no idea why these products have colour shifted so extremely on me. I have not noticed mention of this issue with any of the other reviews I have seen. I really enjoy the formula on these and I will continue to try other shades to see if I can find some that work better with my colouring. They are a great product for the price so I haven’t given up on them just yet.
The Canadian release date for these is January so hopefully we will start seeing them in stores soon.
Products provided for my consideration. All reviews are always my own honest and unbiased opinions.

How strange that they color shift on you– and so radically! I fully expected Lilac Ever to be a gorgeous cool lavender pink! I am less inclined to try them for fear that they will color shift too much on me.

It is strange. Not sure what’s going on. The formula is lovely so I must try some more shades to see if they are a fluke.
You’re not alone here! I purchased several of these shades, and all of them deepened on me. They start out the colour you see in the tube, but they shift so significantly that they look completely different from what you’d expect. The Stubborn Plum shade, for example, ends up being a cool toned mauve rose shade on my lips, not the pastel cool toned plum you see in the packaging. It’s not a bad thing, but it certainly makes it hard to choose which shade to buy.
I do like the colour of the stain that’s left behind from these, though. I have most of the pinks and plums, and they all leave a slight delicate rose or berry colour. Too bad I don’t like the colour of the glosses as much…
That definitely makes it much harder to choose the right shade! The stain left behind is really quite nice- a delicate rose or berry stained lip is always so pretty. Excellent review, as always!

I’m glad to hear I’m not alone. I must try some plum shades!
I’ve been reading about this so much I’m itching to try. I’m hoping L’Oreal will bring it to my country. We’re forever slow -_-

I hope they do Lily!
Pink resistance is so pretty! And your photos are gorgeous! What do you use as a background?

Thanks Krystle! It’s just a white board.
I like Lilac ever after. I know exactly what you mean about colors shifting… for some reason, certain products do that to me. One example is the really popular Revlon lip glosses, but I remember no one else seemed to mention having that problem.

I was actually wondering how similar these were to the YSL glossy stains and your review covered everything I wanted to know!
Unfortunately, I never got to try one of the YSL ones (I could never decide on just one colour and I’m still not too sure how much wear I’d get out of them), so, perhaps these L’Oreal ones would be a great way to test the waters..!
Awesome post!

We seem to get different shades here in Europe and I’ve been really loving them a lot! They are very close to the glossy stains idd but these are just way more sheer which is a nice change. I love both although I do not like the wine scent from the glossy stains, lol. About the colour change on the lips, it’s a big difference idd, I think it might be because of the sheer finish?

Hmm it could be the sheerness but lips definitely do not pull warm or orange. I think it has to be an actual change in the product maybe with my body chemistry?
I have had the same problem with the loreal stains as well. I have it a bit with the YSL too, but not a drastic change like the loreal.
you and I have the same coloring, essentially. Maybe it’s the redheadish pale freckled people that experience it?
Maybe? So odd huh?
