Laura Mercier Mini Kohl Eye Pencil Collection

I had seen info about the Laura Mercier Mini Kohl Eye Pencil set on some other blogs. When I was at Sephora the other weekend I knew I had to snatch it up. I am not an eyeliner person. I tend to just line my lashline with eyeshadow and use black liner to tightline my upper lashline. I have been thinking for a while that it would be fun to have some more proper eyeliners in my collection to play with and given the great reviews of the Laura Mercier Kohl pencils, and the great selection of shades in a perfect mini formula, it seemed a match made in heaven.

Formulated specifically for lining the inside of the eyelid & the base of the lashes. The soft, creamy formula glides easily along the eyelid, creating a smooth and well-balanced line. The luxurious texture allows anyone to achieve the perfect “smoky eye” with maximum wearability.

Laura Mercier Mini Kohl Eye Pencils in Black Gold, Stormy Grey, Brown Copper, Stone Slate, and Black Violet

The set includes five 0.03 oz Kohl Eye Pencil in Black Gold, Stormy Grey, Brown Copper, Stone Slate, and Black Violet. Considering the regular size kohl pencils are 0.04 oz the minis aren’t really all that mini considering they are 75% the size of the full product. Stone Slate is an exclusive new shade for this Sephora exclusive set.

As you can see the shades are GORGEOUS. Richly pigmented, shimmering, and smooth as silk. These pencils glide on so creamily and blend out with ease. There in lies the problem for me…

I found these pencils smudged like crazy on me. I have read so many rave reviews that have said the Laura Mercier Kohl pencils don’t budge once they set, but I have tested them several times on my eyes, as well as my arm, and they never seem to set for me. They fade considerably on me throughout the day. I get pretty good wear on my upper lashline when applied over a base of eye primer and cream shadow but on bare skin they did not work out for me. When I rub the swatches on my arm I can rub the product right off with little effort. They do leave a faint stain behind that is quite stubborn to remove but it is faint. Both times I have tested these on upper lashline, and upper and lower waterlines, I looked like a hot mess after a couple of hours. I am disappointed that this set was such a letdown for me. I had really high hopes.

Have you tried the Laura Mercier Eye Kohls? Are the regular versions of better quality? Am I the odd woman out here?

The Laura Mercier Mini Kohl Eye Pencil set is available for a limited time at Sephora, Neiman Marcus, Nordstrom, Saks, Selfridges, and Holt Renfrew.
