My Makeup Wars Halloween Manicure aka Christa’s Hilarious Attempt at Nail Art

Well I hope clicking on my post won’t be a huge disappointment for all you nail art fans but my contribution to the Makeup Wars Halloween Manicure Challenge is fairly sad. My nails happen to be in horrifying condition at the moment. I’ve been under some stress and have resorted to nail biting again. Given the teeny, tiny surface of my stubby nail beds I didn’t have much of a canvas to work with so this is a cramped first attempt at some free hand nail art.

I stopped into Shoppers Drug Mart because I didn’t own a black nail polish. I grabbed the $1.99 Essence Black is Black polish because I didn’t figure I would have much occasion to use black nail lacquer. Silly me I was forgetting that I’ve been wanting a black polish for a while to use as a base under various glitters and flakies. I haven’t tested out a full application of it yet to see how it performs but trying to use it in the manner I did today it seemed a little sheer. I also picked up the Quo by Orly Instant Artist Kit which includes a Dotter Duo tool and a Detailer Brush. I used the Detailer Brush for this look. I had to trim a stray hair that was too long as soon as I started using it. I found myself wishing it was a finer brush but I may have messed up the point a bit trimming the stray hair. The base is Deborah Lippmann Lara’s Theme.

That’s a really cool nail tool. Wish I had the talent to use it.

It’s not sad, I think it’s really cute! My nails are short too, and it’s not even because I chew on them. They’re just so fragile that they peel and break all over the place! This manicure has given me some hope that I may achieve a cute manicure with my short nails!

  3. I think you did really freaking good. I love your mani!

  4. Your designs are super cute! I don’t have near enough of a steady hand to do something like that.

  5. Those are so cute! I can guarantee you that any nail art I attempted would be pretty scary, so I guess that would make it seasonally appropriate.

You did a great job of doing that freehand! I have all I can do to get polish on! :)

  7. Thanks Teri. I can’t wait to try the dotting tool!

Thanks Sunny! Mine peel, rip, and shred really easy so that starts the biting to try and fix them. ;-) Can’t wait to see what you come up with! It’s worth trying!

    Thank you Brooke!

Ha Ha Kate that is true! No one has even asked yet what that mess on my pinky is supposed to be! LOL

Thank you Beauty411. My only saving grace is I do have a very steady hand.

  8. You have nothing to apologize for since you actually did art and we can actually figure out what you drew! I’m going to get a dotting tool one of these days.
