KIM Professional Makeup Brush Review

I’ve been thinking of improving on my brush collection for quite some time so when I was contacted by the lovely people at KIM Professional Makeup to see if I wanted to test out their products I was more than willing to oblige. They sent me three brushes to share with you. A face brush very similar to the immensely popular MAC 187, an eye brush as well as a standard lip brush. Overall I would have to say I’m quite impressed. For a very affordable brush line these are nice quality and they have a great selection to choose from as well as some nicely grouped sets.
KIM Brushes is a line of makeup brushes from the fine art brush maker Rekab.
From the KIM Brushes website:

For the last one hundred years, professional artists have relied on Rekab to produce brushes using the highest quality materials and an un-paralleled attention to detail. Continuing with this tradition and in conjunction with some of the top make-up schools in Italy, Rekab is proud to announce the KIM line – a line of make-up brushes for professionals.

Hair Mix/Round F251 Face Brush

A large round brush designed specifically for application of wet make-up. The white synthetic and soft hair combination allows for maximum color and liquid retention.
Head Diameter: 20.5 mm
Head Length: 40 mm
Brush Length: 22.5 cm

The F251 was the only brush I was somewhat disappointed with. It sheds a lot. When I washed it prior to using I probably lost 10-12 hairs from it. It also bled quite a bit of black dye. The brush head is nearly identical in size to the MAC 187. The handle is considerably longer though which I found unnecessary and a little annoying. Considering it’s only a few dollars less than the MAC 187 I would, no question, go for the 187. It has a much softer nicer feel. The KIM F251 is still a really nice brush though and if it was priced more competitively against the MAC I would recommend it.

Small Angle 131 Eye Brush
A flat angular brush, perfect for precise lines and detailed work. Emphasizing lining and shaping of the eyes and the eyebrows.
Head Width: 6 mm
Head Length: 7 mm
Brush Length: 18 cm

The 131 is a great brush. I’ve been using it everyday since receiving it. It is soft and does a beautiful job lining under the lower lashes or lining the upper lashes with a soft line. I think the brush head is probably somewhere between the MAC 208 and 266 in size. I only own the 208 so I’m not sure. The KIM brush is softer though and more flexible so it works really nicely with eye shadows where I use my MAC 208s for brow work and gel liners. I highly recommend this brush. My only complaint is that the I wish the handle was shorter.

Narrow Lip 311 Lip Brush
A flat, tipped brush, for precise lining of the lip contour and for perfect application of lip cream and gloss.
Head Width: 5 mm
Head Length: 9 mm
Brush Length: 11 cm
The 311 is a really nice lip brush. I think lip brushes are fairly basic though so I think you be hard pressed to find a truly bad one. Again my only gripe is the really long handle. I prefer retractable brushes to take with me for the day but if you have a need for a stay at home lip brush this is a great choice for the price.

If you are looking for good quality, reasonably priced brushes I recommend checking out the KIM Brushes website.

Shipping is very reasonable at $5 for domestic US shipping and $10 for international shipping. With orders of over $50 US on the KIM website you also receive a free BAGGU makeup bag!
