Estee Lauder Pure Color Illuminating Powder Gelee from the Modern Mercury collection for fall 2011 is one of the prettiest cosmetic items I’ve seen in a while. It is every bit as beautiful as the reviews have been touting. I was a little nervous that it would be hard to make this product subtle for use as a highlighter but it actually ends up it is really quite effortless. One really does need to build up for the more metallic sheen. When applied with a brush it is a lovely, subdued, slightly rosed golden warm glow. The texture is really creamy. I quite like this powder, liquid, gel hybrid they have created! I don’t really see the “liquid” aspect but it is certainly a delightful creamy feel.
Has anyone else noticed that they have given this product a number and shade name and what that may imply? It gives me the tiniest glimmer of hope that maybe there are plans to release more shades of this product in the future!
From the Estee Lauder website:
High polish for your skin. Innovative tri-blend liquid, powder, gel formula goes beyond face powder to give you a sexy, sophisticated glow.
The perfect mix of pigment and pearls for a multi-reflective finish.
Smooths on as an all-over soft sheen. Builds for luminous pearl highlighting.
I’ve had many products that some would consider “too beautiful to use” but I always dig in no holds barred. I have no intention of buying something I won’t use. This is the first time I’ve actually felt angst over marring the beautiful effect of this product in the pan. It is just that pretty.

This shows just a little bit more of the subtle rose tone:
*Edit – I’ve come to accept this is just a little too shimmery for me. It’s so darn pretty though! *sigh*
