YSL Rouge Pur Couture Lipstick in 9 Rose Stiletto – Swatches & Review

This is the only Yves Saint Laurent product I own a the moment. I’d tried a couple of their raved about Rouge Volupte lipsticks in the past and really didn’t care for them. I found them heavy on the lips with way too much slip. I’m not a fan of too much slip in my lipsticks. I like lipsticks to adhere well to my lips with good coverage and not feel overly creamy. You of course may be looking for something completely different 😉
I really like the formula of the YSL Rouge Pur Couture lipstick, at least judging from this shade. I think several of the new ones being released with their summer collection look beautiful so I may just have to try out another! One thing that would keep me from buying more is that I really dislike the packaging. I find it large, clunky and I don’t like the gold finish that smudged, scratched and scuffed up so easily. I only carry this in a pocket compartment in my purse once and a while and it is already quite mucked up.
This shade is a lovely medium rose shade that to me has a bit of a plum twist. It appears far more intense against my fair skin tone that it will likely look on most. My pale, cool-neutral skin tends to make most lipsticks look darker and more vibrant than on most. It has a bit of subtle glossy sheen to it and I love toning it down a bit with different glosses on top.

I apologize for the horrendous state of my sad nails that I chewed all of last week 🙁

That is surprisingly vibrant! The color reminds me a tiny bit of Lancome L’Absolu Nu in Rose Veil. Rose Demure looks positively brown next to it, but to be fair, RD is a definitely browned rose with an emphasis on the brown. I own only a single YSL product, too. It seems marketed at “older” ladies, even though I am one of them now, lol. I guess it sells itself, but I don’t recall seeing much of it in ads.

ZP do you want to know what’s funny! The whole reason I swatched it next to the EB is I thought they were similar! Doh was I off! Since everything goes more vibrant on me the Rose Demure pulls more pinky plum on me than brown so I thought they were close. Man am I colour blind. Good thing for a beauty blogger to be huh 😉

This color looks gorgeous on you! Thank you for comparing this formula to the Rouge Volupte as I have been wondering how they differ for some time.

The quality is stunning, but I wouldn’t have expected any less of YSL. Rose Stiletto looks amazing on you! Thanks for this lovely post 🙂

that is a lovely shade on you. Like you, I am not a fan of the Rouge Voluptes, because they get everywhere and don’t last very well. The RPC formula is way nicer. Even the sheerer “shine” formula ones are good. Youo’re making me think I’ll have to add this shade to my collection.

Yeah I couldn’t understand the love of the Rouge Volupte’s at all but I love this formula. Everyone likes something different though right 😉
